I have seen the leaves on this for maybe 2 years, but this year it bloomed for me. What type of thistle is it besides "put a hurtin' on ya"? Hilarious!

There are a few types of Thistle here in Florida but I'm not sure which yours is, possibly C. horridulum which is widespread in the state.

Bull Thistle (Cirsium horridulum)

LOL Janet ... I just make guesses at the plant ID's; once in awhile I get it right but the majority of the time I'm way off. You are our "Super Sleuth" and you've been such a tremendous help to all of us here! You are so appreciated my friend! Lovey dubby

Nutall's Thistle (Cirsium nuttallii) popped up in my garden for the first time this year and I've found eight plants in the same area of the yard; one is now about 6' tall and going to seed. I've kept it around because I read that it attracts Butterflies and last week we spotted a hummingbird checking out the blooms!

Bull Thistle (Cirsium horridulum) is found all over around the central part of the state. I see it along roadsides a lot.

Spiny Sow-thistle (Sonchus asper) is a weed that I've seen a lot of this year too but it's not pretty like the Cirsium!

So I reckon mine is a bull thistle. Figures it would be a dull yellow instead of a pretty purple. Thanks I tip my hat to you.
