Lilium speciosum rubrum started opening a couple days ago. More opened since but it is pouring today so I won't be able to get better pictures until tomorrow.

All of your lilies are gorgeous. Look how prolific expressions is. I often wonder what the real difference is between lilies like Casa Blanca, or Expressions is. I know some are oriental, some asiatic etc so you are looking at different plant heights. And I suppose there is a difference in upward, downward, outward facing. But really, white is white isn't it? Except the speciosum. They are in a class all but them selves. Gorgeous and so elegantly shaped.

Thanks! I hear you! I look at catalogs and wonder how many are the same with a different name. Some of the cultivars look so similar to ones I already have. You couldn't find Expression any where now but perhaps it has just been offered under other names. I don't think it is Casa Blanca because I have had it for many years and you can see it is not more than 4'. (The fence behind it's height.)

Want to add that this one has some pink on the edges and buds when it first opened.

What is it with the color 'green' that people find so darn intriguing? What am I missing here? I just don't see it, but then, I don't always see lilies in the likeness that others do. Photos are from earlier this summer of two sister seedlings.

For me, green is my favorite color. That said I don't believe that it is an optimal color for flowers due to most foliage also being green. I also think that because there are not many green lilies, it is new and interesting. It also has a novelty to it.

Lorn, if you don't like them I know a good home for them besides your compost heap......

My Tropic Moon does not match the Tropic Moon in the database. Tracey, you also have Tropic Moon, don't you? What color is yours?

Here's mine.

Hilarious! Well maybe you got one of those Tropical Isles that B&D says they have been propagating. I would rather have what you got than what you wanted on this one Lorn!

Sorry for the confusion. It's Rising Moon; that's what it is! I had this mix up last Spring, changed the tags to correct in the garden but hadn't revised my garden map yet. Sorry!

So ok Lorn, what do you think is so different between yours and mags? With just one "sample" from each of you to view I don't have enough information to come to a conclusion...

They look the same to me. That was one I thought was correct, at least I don't have it in my notes anywhere to follow up on it.

Tracey, yours is correct and so is mine. I had the photos of Rising Moon and Tropical Moon switched in my reference files. I've got everything straightened out now. Sorry for the false alarm.

Yeah, sorry to confuse anyone. See, in my system the garden plant tags, photo tags and garden map tags all have to line up. When I either received or mixed up the two while planting last Spring, I corrected in the garden plant tags when they bloomed but didn't correct the others. Now, somewhere and somehow I have developed this mental image that everything with 'tropical' in it's name resembles a tropical sunset coral color. So, Tropical Moon photo tag kept fitting my mental image description everytime I looked at it and I never caught it! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Here's my latest addition from late last month. I've been hitting Lowes to keep mostly Asiatic lilies potted on the front porch. They ship those budded up hothouse lilies all summer so when the bloom is done I just keep my eyes out for something new to transfer to the porch pot. I spotted these short Orientals and couldn't pass them up. I think $12.99 for 3 stems, much better deal than cut flowers at the florist. I've swapped out for a short canna and discovered three nice bulbs so I'm happy. My mom loved the scent coming through the house from the screen door (cut lilies aren't an option with plant curious cats). Compared to Stargazer and Starfighter I think I actually prefer the blooms on these.
