I got two right now, going to keep them in container. So it is easier to bring them in winter.

Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng'
Got this one at Ikea San Diego last Nov 2013. I l really like the thick base. So far have not repotted it and seems happy as long as it is in bright light area. I love how compact it grows, and easy enough to water, just making sure I remove it from that decorative container, allowing it to drain. I have read this one is used a lot for bonsai gardening..have not done that ever..so am reading more first if I can do it.



Ficus maclelandii 'Alii'
Got this one this year for a shady area in my patio. So far going good. I love the long thin leaves. And so far it does not mind growing in the geopot container.

During our heat wave days, I notice Ficus maclelandii 'Alli' grows out its new leaves crinkly curly..but eventually straightens out as temps improve. For awhile I thought it was reacting when I moved it to a shadier spot..but it repeated it again coinciding with our heat wave days.

Last Aug 8, 2014 high temps at this time between 90 to 94F


Sept 15, 2014 high temps at this time, since over the weekend, 96 to 100F

Thanks Tiffany! One of my favorites too in the garden..so easy to manage so far. I got it from Ikea in San Diego last year. I always love caudex forming plants.

Uh-oh...I see a nasty near my ficus...if that goes on to the Ficus..will definitely spray it off with water.

I don't kill many critters outside, (or inside if I can get them back outside) but would that one if I could.

That one got a reprieve I went out again and it is gone..it is just that it must be the one munching on my Adenium and Plumeria leaves.
