Not that it really matters, but anyone have any clue on this one? Tall bearded.. pretty tall about 38-40" tall. True to color.

I don't think so. It looks like the noid has a band of lighter color around the edges of the falls, if you check some pics of IC, I don't think you'll see that. Overall color is close, though. I'll think on it...Arlyn

My Indian Chief shows a slight lightening in the edges of the fall; not quite as pronounced as the NOID. I vote that it is the same variety though.

No, I don't think Rosy Wings is it, either. Too "uniform" in color. The noid, as well as IC, show a pretty marked difference between standards, and falls (falls darker, and more "velvety").Do some looking on the HIPS site, Sherry linked to, as well as this site http://irisparadise.com/Iris/index.htm .both of these sites are excellent for older iris....Arlyn

You know, I think I figured it out. I usually buy irises based upon the name because when I get them, I have no idea what they're gonna look like. And I was going through Blue J Iris' catalog & saw "Wearing Rubies"

http://www.bluejiris.com/images/JedGarden2/WearingRubies-16F...

I recognize that name. That is definitely something I would have bought. And since it's not like I'm selling these or anything, I think that's what I'll call it. Wearing Rubies.

How about these two here? They're also TB, can't tell if a scent because of the rain we got. True to color. Early morning light.

My dark mystery blue with Cinnamon Girl, a yellow noID heirloom, Sheba's Queen, & Dreaming of Rio. I've got very few irises blooming this year and some of the dwarfs sent up stalks w/flower buds, but then the flower buds dried up & never opened! Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling

Wearing Rubies looks waaaaaay too modern. I'm guessing yours is from the 30's or 40's..

Louvois a possibility @crowrita?

Possible, I guess, but Louvois seems a little too "brownish" to me, IMHO. It's gonna' take LOTS of "picture looking", comparisons of height, and season, etc., to get close on this one. "reds' from this era were stating to get pretty common, and between Cayeux, and Lapham alone I can think of several possibles, and that's just two hybridizers out of scores! And while you can call it anything you want, Toni, Sherry's right...Wearing Rubies isn't even close....Arlyn

Arlyn, what a tremendous source that German site is!! So nice to have it broken up by hybridizers... I even got a couple "almosts" on a NOID of mine...

Fritz does have an amazing website, there is all manner of information there, as well as tons of pictures! It is the most "searchable" site I know of. When you consider that he does it all himself, plus taking care of his huge garden, plus " working for a living", you have to admit that he's really dedicated to "iris" !..Arlyn

Can anyone ID this iris? It is listed by the owner as Amas, but I don't think so. It is lovely. What is its real name?
