Some plant entries seem to lend themselves to multiple images of blooms - all beautiful, no complaints. It struck me the other day that it might be nice to arrange the photos by gallery, and then by thumbs within the gallery. If there is more than would fit on the first line of a gallery, there could be an arrow to continue looking at a particular gallery. Blooms should be the top gallery since that is the eye candy (and maybe even allow it two lines), perhaps then followed by whole plant to get an idea of how it might fit into your garden, then leaves, and whatever else makes sense. Just a wayward thought, perhaps a winter project?

It would be very easy to do that if that's what we wanted.

I think it could be a very useful tool in the database.

I like the idea, but hate sites that require you to scroll through photos, especially if there are lot of them, because I am not a casual observer. Since there are so many sources of said photos, it is important to be able to compare and contrast to determine the voracity and correct identity. This a a very difficult task when having to scroll back and forth.

Considering though, that in time the number of photos can become so large in some categories that it would take up the whole screen, relegating other galleries to a "hidden" status. I would suggest that the photo galleries be individually listed first, each in a single line, for each DB entry, so one could click on them to see the corresponding gallery. I might also suggest that either:
1) a gallery not be listed if there are no photos posted for that gallery, or
2) always have all the galleries listed, but somehow signify if there are any photos posted to a gallery. Not only would this streamline a visitors inquiry, but this would have the added advantage of encouraging members to fill gaps needed for accurate identification.

I kind of like that idea.

Maybe display the top "X" images in each gallery (perhaps 2 or 3, if there are that many), ordered in each gallery by thumbs. Then once you go through all the galleries, display all the rest of the images grouped together, ordered by thumbs.

When I open a plant entry on my computer, there are 5 photos per row on my display. When I open one on my Nook, there are only 3 photos per row (much smaller screen). Would that automatically adjust as it does now? It would be delightful to see 5 photos of close-up blooms, another 5 photos of the whole plant, 5 photos of just the leaves, and whatever other galleries might be represented. With the option to scroll over for further photos within a gallery (usually close-up blooms are the largest collection). And, I agree that this may inspire folks to submit photos to flesh out the holes. Clear photos of both the front and backs of leaves, stems, and other plant parts are very helpful to ID plants and rather than being buried amid all the bloom photos, it would be nice to have them together. I also think it would make the appearance of our database more professional.

This has been discussed before. This was my suggestion.
