Hm, a piece of frost cloth might do the trick, Billy. You could make a frame the right size out of pvc pipe, and glue a sheet of frost cloth over it, then stake it up over your bed on an angle. It will provide maybe 20% shade, and some of the rain will be deflected, but not all.

Btw it's not a good idea to give out your e-mail address on a public forum. You should edit your post above to take that out.

Thanks for your time.. Thank You!

Sure, or I get mine at www.gardeners.com as well. Home Depot and Lowe's carry it also, but maybe not in the summer. Another source might be Farmtek, which would sell it by the foot or by the yard, and depending how big and what shape your bed is, that might work better for you,

Someone here was taking about a product called Shade Dots or something? But it would not cover a large need, but rather specific plants. How big of an area are you taking about?

I use Shade dots for some of my plants and some succulents, since my planting area is just small anyways, so it helps. We do not have rain here during summer, just the intense heat. Come Fall, I will remove it, but for now, any added shade helps.

I ordered it at their website: shadeforplants.com

Can you tell me how they hold up when it does rain ? I found them and they would work and really add to the look of the beds..
Thank you so much.

Hi again Billy,
I use a hoop set up. Just re-bar and PVC then covered in plastic, with ends open in winter. I use clamps to hold the plastic on the PVC pipe. I was going to us landscape fabric for shade cloth over the hoop house but have not gotten to it. I'll get a picture of the hoops in the morning.

The Shade Dots seem to be made from simple corrugated plastic available in sheets at craft stores. If you can cut a couple of circles, you can attach them to perhaps bamboo stakes or other with cork(?) or other(?) on top and bottom and sealed with caulk to stop them from sliding up and down?

I have been working on getting the soil to drain good, before I put any thing in them. I will send pictures as soon as I get it done. I am trying my beat to make this love for the Hens and Chick to work for me..
Thank you all. For all your help. What a great group of plant lovers.. I love it..

OK here is my cover.
Thumb of 2014-07-12/springcolor/100759 Open at this time but when winter comes with the constant ran I fold over the frames.

Then I secure with these. The first one is the best but the red handled one is good for the ends. The ends are open for air movement.
Not beautiful but it works!!!! Of course I don't live were there is huge snow fall or high winds. I got the clamps at harbor freight.

Sorry, cannot really say how it will hold up if it does rain..it has not rained here yet. One thing I can comment is about the wind, has to be really propped up securely, easy to get tossed away.

Thank you so much..I think that will be what I need. it will work. I can maybe put it on top, half, to help keep so much rain to get into the bed..
What was the cover again ? Thanks for all your time. Billy

The rain cover is just plastic. I buy it at Home Depot in a big roll. I'm going to put up a shade cloth tonight with landscape fabric see how it does on the PVC frame.

I was thinking of doing that. You give me a great idea. I am going to put it together and then see what all I have to buy to build it.
I am going to get my shade cloth, I think of Ebay. I was looking at some..
Here is the pictures of my beds. The big one I still have to work on the front to get it right..
Thank you again for all your help. Picture of my green house. I never build anything in my 57 years , but two years ago, I always wanted one so I got on YouTube, and put a little from one and a little from another one, and made me one. I just have had the best time having one to work with my plants..

It was the first thing I every build. I am sure it not 100 % right, but I always wanted one, and I did it.
You are the one that has me thinking about doing it the way you did, I think with the plastic and share cloth on top like the greed house will work..I can not believe all that I have done for these Hens and Chicks.
The beds I have put everything to the soil, that I could find to make then drain. I see that the front of my bigger one, in the front it`s going down with the ground. Not sure if I will be able to do any thing about that. did not even see it till I saw the pictures.
Thank you again for all your time, and for being so kind to me. when I get it together how I want to make it, I will send you pictures, maybe there will be plants in there.
