Yeah I've had several visits over the last month and a half or so. I shovel it up and throw it away as soon as I notice it. Pretty annoying. I try not to let it get to the spore stage so hopefully it will be less of an issue next year.

That's what it is! Had it growing on my wood mulch one morning. Went away in its own. Anyone know what causes it?

Just part of the natural process of decomposition, often seen in mulch. Harmless, a sign there's life in the soil.
