My noid Adenium has been growing nicely this year with its lovely blooms. For awhile I thought it will not make any blooms, but as the heat increased, and with increased watering as well, it bloomed nicely. I did change some of its soil in early Spring, added some fertilizer at that time.

The roots as seen during repot last April 2014

After soil change:

More new leaves by 19June 2014, caudex getting fatter and really rock hard

As July came with its hot and hotter temps, increased to daily watering. A new bloom cluster shows up on just one branch..all buds on that branch eventually bloomed nicely:

This August, that first branch is slowly winding down, but the other branches are now gearing up...so the bloom show continues Hurray!

I got two little Adeniums too, I guess too young to make buds for now..nice to see it makes its caudex grow fatter.
It still making new leaves, still doing well. One of them got some aphids on its new leaves..got it out in time, so plant resumes growing new leaves.

I lost one other little one..wrong container, too deep for it..oh well. Rolling my eyes. Really better to use shallow but wider container. Lesson learned.

I found some fertilizer for bougainvilleas that is really close to what Adeniums need. It has micronutrients. Tho' it's not water soluble.

The little one with cactus in the background is big enough to bloom, maybe. Good luck!

Oh I wish those little ones will try. The smallest one I think is trying..though I still have to wait if what I see forming are actually buds or just more leaves. Smiling

tarev, I love the big fat caudex with those red/pink edged white blooms.
Very nice.

First branch with blooms has finished...and the other branches now picking up the blooming phase. This year is truly wonderful!

Since I have stepped up watering, I am also trying to see how the caudex feels to the touch..and it is really rock hard! I always watch one of the "arms' of this caudex, when it starts to show some shrinkage, it is telling me it wants more water. It certainly likes drinking a lot, and that direct full sun. Normally it would not be good for this plant to be watered daily like what I do..but I can get away with it since our area is really very dry, daytime temps at the mid 80's to upper 90's ++, very low humidity and my container is shallow and well draining. Anyways, it is still summer, so giving this plant all the water it can drink! Big Grin

I am learning a lot from this plant, watching for the cues..what it needs..somehow seeing similar traits in some of my other actively growing drought tolerant plants during summer.

If Adeniums are growing new leaves, and are in well draining mix, and weather is hot, they like plenty of water.

Any other time, watering must be done with awareness of the plant.

Absolutely right Melissa. Treat like a tropical plant when very hot temps and dry conditions hover like what we have here.

Watching our overnight lows now...having a cooler August. I like when it gets into just the mid 80's range, it holds the blooms nicely, though it is taking awhile longer for the buds to bloom, seems to like to bloom if it feels the low 90's here.

Right, Tarev. Below 80 is actually chilly for Adeniums, and below 65 is nearly freezing. 55 could be killer.

Uh oh..we are hitting 59 overnight...but it still gets warm enough, as long as we still hit 80's and a bit higher, we should be good Smiling

Yup, have scaled down watering for now..it really hates feeling cold, started to blast some blooms..however, there are some tips now actively growing new leaves..interesting..maybe it felt it is Spring Smiling Same goes with my two little ones, actively growing new leaves too.

@Tarev you are going to make me start collecting Adeniums if you and Robert keep posting these beautiful photos.

Hubby got me my first one for Mother's Day so I would tell him it is his fault if I want more. It was full of blooms. Now it has seed pods and more buds.

This is what it looked like in May.

That's my worry too. Although all my bigger plumerias survived uncovered last winter, if we get cold winter this year, I will have no place to store them Thumbs down

No place? Ha, when it rains too much here, like eight inches in two days, many of my favorites find their way into my kitchen, and living room. Tough walking through the house! And it's not easy to herd them back outside...

Rolling on the floor laughing That's where hubby draws the line.

Although couple years ago we had a really cold winter and the garden bath tub in our master bedroom became a real garden full of orchids and plumeria seedlings. Rolling on the floor laughing
