Since the worst winter since Records began in the UK, I admit to getting very concerned about my tree ferns for they have never suffered such prolonged low temperatures as that!
I have taken some pictures not long ago this morning and to my utter surprise they are now standing more upright than they were after being flattened with snow and ice.
Here they are with some words from me.
Regards.
Neil.
this was under snow not so long ago, then ice!

Even one of the small ones that I was worried about has come back to life.

These fronds were frozen inside the water pump for a ling tome, now look at them.
Thumb of 2011-01-23/NEILMUIR1/550749
These tree ferns or Dicksonia antarctica are only supposed to be hardy to 28 F and at 24 F lose there fronds. As it got down to 15.5 F in some places on some nights and lower in other areas they have amazed me.

When the girls were small we had a very bad winter when we lived in kent, would I go out with the girls to make a snowman, so off we went into the garden, after a while a neighbour asked me who I was talking to, the little monkey's had got cold and left me on my own, still making the snowman for them, boy did I feel stupid finding that I had been talking to myself.

A lovely sunny day and my first time to try my new lens for the camera out. So I got some pictures to cheer you up, hopefully! There are too many to put on at once so I will do it in stages for all to see.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I have done taking them at a long distance.
Spring is bearing new life, from a horrible winter.
Regards.
Neil.

The weather has changed for the worse I am afraid. It is bitterly cold, wet and very windy. On the odd dry spell we have had it is too cold to do anything at all. plus the wind just slices through you.
It has been Grey and miserable all the time, and never seems to get light at all. All the lovely bulbs were coming out and I was looking forward to getting you some pictures. Not at the moment I can't.
Regards.
Neil.

The sun was wonderful to see today, warm and dry put and things in flower now at last in abundance after getting stopped for two weeks because of the cold weather.
So to cheer everyone up I went out and got some pictures, and there are more to come.
See what you think.
