Also keep an eye out for their discounted gift cards. I like Penzey's products. I just now put a bit of their hot chocolate mix into my coffee (the regular one, not the mint).

We had Paul Prudhome's "Red Eye Chicken" last night -- toasted paprika & sour cream, plus a zillion other things like most of his recipes (we have a couple we like, and I just mix up big batches of the spice blend). I use both regular and half-sharp paprika in it. We ate it with egg noodles, delicious!

(If anybody thinks paprika is flavorless red stuff used to add a bit of color, you need fresher paprika. Penzey's is a great source, and you can often find bulk bags at an Indian grocery.)

There are 3 kinds of paprika. I needed paprika and found only one kind at Harris Teeter that is my go-to-store every week: HOT paprika. So I went to Penzey's : they have Sweet paprika, Spncy paprika and combination of the 2. It was for my Hungarian mushroom soup by Sam Hu online. I love his Mushroom soup---so wanted to try his Hungarian Mushroom soup. I ended up throwing away that mushroom and have not made it. Was not feeling well and did not feel to cook, just went and bought Bolivian soup at LuzMary closely, with their delicious Saltina.
I also often go to an Indian store close by. A lot cheaper but if you want quality, Penzey's is the way to go-

Here is a delicious egg nog recipe from Puerto Rico. Just delicious with their gold Rum.
introduced at work--my boss usually brought it at our Division Christmas party-this is not his recipe, but the recipe that I found online is similar, he used egg yolks and gold Rum and Lopez coconut CREAM. I remember that much. For my Indonesian cooking I prefer to use Chaokoh and add 1 can water also to clean the cream stuck in the can (so I get 2 cans out of 1 can--to make average thickness coconut milk for curries and soups with coconut milk.

Last spring we discovered sweetened condensed coconut milk at Walmart -- not for curries, but wonderful for making pina coladas!

Penzey's also has smoked paprika, similar flavor to chipotle but without the heat. It's a great way to add a little smoky flavor to something, but go easy with it, it's powerful.

I got a granulated 'ham base' for soup at the Amish market, it's pretty smoky.
Plant it and they will come.

I think the smoked paprika is Spanish. I needed Hungarian for the soup. I am now making Pork trotter with fermented Chinese bean curd in a jar. Recipe from online by Souped Up Recipe. My favorite chef for Chinese Food. I learned from her to make my golden fried rice, using the egg yolks mixed with the day old rice, instead of frying the eggs separately--She teaches how to cut the split feet with finding the joint and seoaratubg the feet into 3 parts without breaking the bones! It is a long recipe----but it looks delicious. I have just finished blanching the feet, still in the pot. Need to fish them out and drain it dry and then brown the trotters. I needed the star anise for the blanching (+ ginger and scallion to get rid of the smell of the trotters). The recipe can also be used with pork belly instead of trotters/feet, I guess you can make them using pork legs---I had never eaten the trotters----very curious----

Has anyone read Herge's Tintin series? I am reading Tintin Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon Copyright 1959 (English) and 1954 (Dutch: Kuifje Mannen op de Maan). Lots of intrigue --lesson: being addictive in gambling can be very dangerous-- so far my favorites are Tintin in Tibet and The Blue Lotus. Both books Herge /RG wrote giving his Chinese friend Zhang a role in the 2 books. they became friends in Belgium where Zhang was studying art. Flight 714 is also very interesting, Background was Indonesia still fighting for independence where there was also extra terrestrial and flying saucers played a role, also the huge lizard of Indonesia was seen in the islands--and hypnotism used so they did not remember anything-Earthquakes, volcano eruptions----very exciting--

Back to food, I love to use condensed milk to make a coffee with avocado drink, using ice and 2 expressos. The Amarican wife of an Indonesian used their special very popular recipe when they had a party in their house by instead of coffee they used Kahlua and then lots of ice and condense milk and blended the avocados and served in glasses.--

Some "parts" are tastier than others, for sure.

I think we may do pancakes for dinner tonight. Is anybody making oyster stew?

Merry Christmas Eve!

I made chicken Kiev once, a long long time ago, as I recall it was tasty, but took too much time to make.

That's nuts! Was there a "run" on eggs, or is it a supply chain issue?

Last week, 1 dozen large were $2.15 at Lidl. Today, they're $3.59 and sold out even with a limit of 6.

Oof, again with the avian flu. I hadn't realized it was that widespread. Limit was 3 last week at Aldi, something like $3.19 I think.
