I saw a nice pale pink SDB. Barry made the breakthrough on the little pinks. |

Great eye candy!! There are several that I really love! ![]() ![]() ![]() It's too bad they are at the point that they need to close the garden to visitors...but completely understandable. |

Haha! Already poured over it. So many of the new introductions I'll have to have. ![]() The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us. |

There are a few in there I'll want for sure. I wonder which ones will be in Keppel's catalog? Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities," |

Of the dwarfs I like Baffle and Toned but by far and away my favorite is Maglissa. I sure hope those make it to America. (I have not looked at the TB's.... I am afraid to) A lot of my favorite hybridizers are slowing down and it is a little heart wrenching to see them do so. It is quite understandable but still..... I am selfish. Our local hybridizer, Mark Grumbine, has taken his signs down from the highways and from his iris farm, given a lot of his irises to the Iris Society and has let most of what is left go to grass. I guess that is what makes me hypersensitive to other hybridizers slowing down. .... but, I am slowing down too. smiles Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing? |

I hate to see this too. We need more new hybridizers. |

Bonnie - A request if possible. We need pictures of Grumbine's work. Only two of his 119 cultivars has pictures in the ATP database. Could you approach him to see if he has pictures of his work that he would be ok with posting to the database? Is that too much to ask? I hate to see his work lost to time. We are starting to lose the big wave of amateur hybridizers that appeared in the 78's & 80's at an alarming rate. This is why I started to concentrate on collecting the cultivars of Sterling Innerst. |

Yes, we do! We have a few folks on this site that create some stunningly beautiful irises but turning it into a business is quite another thing. It also strikes me as odd that we have such strict regulations on importing rhizomes that can be cut back severely and given a Clorox bath when the people in charge of our wellbeing seem to think importing insects to attack plant diseases or control other harmful insect populations and import plants such as Kudzu to use as erosion prevention is a stellar idea....... hmmmmm........ I will get off the soap box now and go do something productive. Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing? |

I will see what I can do Greg to get his photos on here. Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing? |

A thought just occurred to me -- I wonder if we couldn't form an informal buying cartel, combining our orders from Barry for one shipping expense, which we would split according to how many rhizomes we purchase. One person would do the ordering and receiving, repacking and reshipping to each of us -- so we would also pay the re-shipping expense. We would send our money in advance to this person so that they would not be out any money of their own except their own purchase and import expense. I hope I explained that well? Each year, we could switch the person doing the ordering work of this so that no one gets stuck with it all the time. Watcha think? Thoughts become things -- choose the good ones. (www.tut.com) |

I'd probably go with 'Dance With Dragons', 'Georgette Silk', & 'Royal Mystique' from the new ones... I could make a long list out of the older ones.. But right now, I'm going to go out in the garden and try to plant one or two from my excess of pots... Members of our iris club used to send a group order to Barry. But there are some new hybridizers here who would love the business. Even some older people who are still small scale. |

If I bought a TB on the list it would be Chocolatier. gorgeous! Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing? |

I also liked some of those Mador's iris on the French site. I would love to mix some new stock with my sturdy old Fabians. Many iris are becoming too similar to what has already been done. Imagine mixing old classics with outlandish blue beards and Space Age characteristics. ![]() Remember, hybridizing keeps you healthy. Ya gotta hang in there to see that new bloom! Ooooh. My picks are Sassy Sister, Diamonds and Rubies, Gathering Light and Fast Talker. Don't make fear based decisions. |

I'm with Bonnie - Chocolatier is wonderful! |
