It's kind of a battle trying to keep some around the yard, but not letting them get out of hand. But the butterflies love them so much, I can't bring myself to eradicate them. Not that I think I could eradicate them to begin with. Plus, as a native plant lover, I realize they were here way before me and obviously serve a purpose in my ecosystem. Luckily, I'm on a corner lot so I can kind of let them grow down by the street and no one cares.

Glad I could help with the article! Even I was surprised by the variety of butterflies I had pictures of on this plant!

I didn't even use all of the pictures you sent me. There were MORE! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful butterfly photos!

For those of you reading this & who also love butterflies, come on over & take a look at the Butterflies, Moths & Larvae thread here:
The thread "October 2014 Butterflies, Moths & Larva" in Gardening for Butterflies, Birds and Bees forum

Melanie is astoundingly knowledgable about butterflies. She volunteers at the Museum of Science & Industry in the butterfly house, raising butterflies and teaching about them. She also raises butterflies at home. Her photos are extraordinary and I promise you will learn bundles by reading her posts.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others.

I know you love spreading the knowledge & they *are* so much fun not to mention beautiful. I think what I like most about your posts (besides the learning) is that you don't *just* convey the knowledge but are entertaining while doing it. Thumbs up

Awesome butterflies Melanie!
Thank You! Ann for including them and the article!
Showing my ignorance here--I only knew Bidens as an annual that I don't grow Hilarious! I'll be on the look out now and see if we have any around here.

I'm sure you will be able to find some growing wild somewhere Dirt. You can collect some seeds off of them. If you just have a small patch of them in your garden it would be easy to deadhead them like one does with any other plants. The seeds are viable for 5 years.

B. bipinatta might one of the Bidens that grows where you are Dirt.

Spanish Needles (Bidens bipinnata)

I'm not exactly sure where you are but I'm just guessing.
