Thanks everyone for your insights. I have been in an area with poor internet coverage (a big blessing actually).
The left end is the stem end. I have really enjoyed all of the sleuthing going on here! It may very well be a cross as mentioned above. Here is a closer photo of each end.

Thanks for giving that seed savers forum. It helped shed some light on some other squash that showed up in my garden.

@porkpal do the pics help? @dave am I correct on the ends? The brownish part is thick and dry.

Definitely correct on the stems. I'm thinking this is a cross and that pink banana genetics are present.
