That is a wonderful, huge garden! We got about 4" of snow last night. ![]() Cubits Store: The Sempervivum Patch - plants, containers, accessories! Also stop by Timber Treasures and Garden Buddies on Cubits |
Well, at least you got snow and not just nasty freezing temps. And the other good thing about snow this time of the year is that it does not last. ![]() I know I'm going to tear up more of the East pasture this year and put in more peonies, I just haven't broken it to my husband as of yet. ![]() |

You're right, the snow doesn't last long. Unfortunately I'm at work and not able to get any pictures though..... That's so nice that you have room - and energy - to put in more gardens! I think about digging up more lawn sometimes but then think, do I really want more to weed? Right now, I'm thinking not? ![]() Cubits Store: The Sempervivum Patch - plants, containers, accessories! I never use to use mulch anywhere but in my hosta beds, but I am now using it in everything. I just make sure that I leave a circle around my peonies and I plant my iris on a mound and then mulch up to the mound. As far as digging out a bed, I don't dig out anything. I just spray the area that I want a new bed in with Round-up and kill off the grass and then I skim the sod off the areas I want to plant in and mulch the heck out of things. ;) If I can't wait for the round-up to kill things off, then I skip it and just mow the area really close and then skim the sod off where I want to plant and then lay down newspaper sections and or cardboard and mulch away.. ![]() |

I love mulch and buy it by the trailer load. Sure cuts down on weeding and watering! I'll have to try the Round-Up/newspaper method. Sounds like something I can handle. ![]() Cubits Store: The Sempervivum Patch - plants, containers, accessories! Also stop by Timber Treasures and Garden Buddies on Cubits |

Just found this post since I am fairly new to all this., it has been taking some time to go back and read and try to catch up on what I have been missing. great site. Do you have pictures of this project completed and planted? I love peonies and do not see too many posts from gardeners about peonies...lots of iris. Do any of you peony people trade? I am willing to do so. Please email me back if anyone is interested in trading. thank you doglover (Marsha) ![]() ![]() I need to get some new pictures for this year. Thank you |

I'll try to get more pictures of my peonies this year. I have been seriously restoring my old farm house for the past three or four years and it's taken a toll on my garden time. So... This year, we're back to gardening with a vengence. ![]() Diann |

Thank you goldfinch. I will be trying to join in on this thread more often. Ticker, I will be watching for your pictures. Don't you just hate it when others things take you away from your gardens? I have been going back thru some old pictures to find some others to post. Just need more time. keep planting those peonies, one can never have enough. Love them. Marsha |
