...that last weekend, I ordered 4 yards of mulch after the rains. Everyone knows you get more mulch pound for pound after it rains. More mulch to cover already wet ground. And these temps sure beat late spring temps near 90 degrees. Why not, right? I'll tell you "why not"! Because Christmas is around the corner that's "why NOT"! I am hitting my head against the wall. And so explains why the small mountain of mulch has been sitting on my driveway for 4 days. What's more, because I bought it wet, as it dries and fluffs up, it's expanding like curly hair on a rainy day!

I have a house full of family coming starting next week when DD comes home from college. I took a 3 day break after spreading mulch in the front yard beds to clean the carpet and prepare the guest rooms, tidy up etc. I still have shopping to do and menus to plan. Will it all get done? Stay tuned...

I get a gold star today for getting all the mulch down. It really paid off too as my normal springtime amount covered two extra beds once the mulch dried and fluffed up. We'll get some rain very soon so maybe it will clean my driveway off? Munching on Hawaiian Sea Salt Carmel Corn with ibuprofen, and enjoying the fruits of my labor.

Another hard freeze coming...could be the worst so far. Forecast is 24° in these chilly hills, early Monday a.m. I'm getting too old for this stuff!

Have some of those same lows forecast here for the week coming. I have Clematis and Dianthus in bloom, and some Sugar Snap Pea pods alllllmost ready. Probably lose the blooms. Guess I'd better get the pods picked.

It's still in the 40s with rain here, but we're expecting the same cold weather soon. Just a few days ago it was 70°! We've been lucky so far. I still have Lantana blooming in the Hell strip out front. The rest is fairly dismal. It's thundering now. Seems so strange to hear it!

My roses have been loving the cold, wet weather here; many are blooming enthusiastically.

The thunder continued past 1:30 AM. It rained all night, I think. We are heading out to find a little heater for the little greenhouse our daughter gave us. Next week we'll have some freezing nights in the 20s.

@porkpal...do you trim your roses back in February, or just let them grow? And a random question, do your piggies have shelters in winter?

I don't actually trim my roses at all unless they are dead or severely in the way. They are mostly old garden roses and are nearly feral.

The pigs have a run-in type shed bedded with shavings into which they can disappear as desired. They seem to like the nasty weather and are out poking around in their pasture this morning.

Good to know about the roses. I still have a few, but I've stopped fretting over them. The drought and intense heat has taken most of the hybrids. I'm rethinking all my plants lately. The city of Austin has annexed us. Our water bills are going to nearly double.

And I'm glad the pigs don't have to stay out in the cold, if it ever gets that cold in your neck of the woods!
