Came across this compost/greenhouse combo idea and thought it looked interesting. What do you think?

I like the cold frames on the other side, too.

I love those ideas but the greenhouse would have to be at least twice as large for my purposes. Thus will all those boxes built on either side, I would need a lot of space.

Love the idea - but wonder if it would call critters into the greenhouse.

I couldn't get any text on that link, but compost in a greenhouse will produce heat as well as increase the CO2 levels, which will make your plants grow faster. I never tried pile idea because you never have enough room in a greenhouse, even when you build it twice the size you think you need.

The layout I see has the compost bins and cold frame outside the greenhouse, not inside of it.

Yes, I don't think that they have any connection to the inside. But they would warm the brick wall of the GH adding some warmth, I would think.

That is what I thought I was seeing in that picture too. Doesn't look real efficient. To make that work real well, you cover the top of the side bins with air tight glass, or clear plastic covers that can be lifted up to add compost, etc. That will make the material bake. Then put a smaller hole in the greenhouse connecting it to the the bottom of the bin, and let the heat and CO2 enter the greenhouse. Even better, would have like bins on both sides so heating is more uniform.

Hmmm, a great idea, especially since I'm starting with a greenhouse kit. Once the greenhouse is up it would be no problem to put up some cold frames and compost bins surrounding the outside. The kit is a commercial one, that can be added to over time, which I hope to do. Big Grin
