Has anyone ever heard of "A Windsong Nursery" in Indiana before? They have quite a few newer daylilies for sale, but the pictures are hybridizer pictures so I'm not too sure about them. Dave's does not have them listed that I could see either. Any experience with them?.......Maryl http://windsongnursery.com/day... |

I had not heard of them before, but AWN is a 2 hour drive my my house, so I would be interested to know if they have open garden days. A lot of their daylilies seem to be SF only. For instance, A Windsong Nursery offers a single fan of Adamas (2002) is $14.99. Marietta Gardens ships a double fan for $18. Vickie May all your weeds be wildflowers. ~Author Unknown |

I see they are having an herb seminar in March 2015, that might be a chance to check them out. |

I also see that they have a double fan of Always Tomorrow (Shooter 1999) for $9.99. Marietta Gardens has it for $22.00. At 32" tall with a 6" bloom, and pink to boot, I would drive two hours to buy that... plus others I'm sure. I would like to go in the summer when their daylilies are blooming. It sounds like they are very busy and have a lot going on. I think I will email them and see if they have open gardens in June or July. Vickie May all your weeds be wildflowers. ~Author Unknown |

I live in Southern, IN and have been there. Lots of daylilies to pick from. I went to their Daylily Daze in June this last year and had a good time there. Found out about them by the pink signs on the road. They are very knowledgeable and helped me figure out what I wanted for my new garden. Trying to be more organized about the bloom time so I get flowers all summer. They had a HUGE selection to pick from. Actually it was a bit hard to pick because they had so many beautiful daylilies to choose. They gave me a catalog to use to pick out the ones that bloom at different times. They had lists of the ones that bloomed in early spring, then early mid, mid and late season with pictures so I did not have to search thru everything the hard way. They had lots of other plants there too. Annuals, vegetables, perennials, hanging baskets of various kinds from Petunias to three different kinds of fuscia and two I had never seen before. The lady there I overheard talking to people about herbs of all kinds. Not much into that but it was interesting. On my third trip, I bought some of their seedlings that where blooming. Gorgeous plants. They had the seedlings in pots flowering so I just picked what I wanted. They where not registered but look as good as any I have seen out there for big bucks and these only cost between 5 and 10 bucks. And got a discount on top of it. I discovered a nice thing about getting them in pots. They don't have any transplant shock and I did not have to wait for them to recover before they bloom again. Just dug the hole prepped the soil a little with fertilizer they gave me and stuck them in the ground. No fuss no worries. I bought some of their fertilizer and put it on my plants and boy does it work. I will definitely be going there earlier this year to get my vegetables as well. They are cheaper then anywhere else here locally and look ten times better. Going to try some of their urban gardening stuff they suggested as well. Nice people. |

Welcome Cowboydadx5. Sounds like you had a nice time at the nursery and picked up some bargins to boot (always a thrill). Thanks for the information......... My main area of interest is how they grow their daylilies. Are they field grown and exposed to the weather or greenhouse grown? ..........Maryl |

I believe I have purchased seeds from them. I highly recommend their seeds. But have never purchased plants from them. A True gardener will purchase a thousand plants before thinking of where to put them :P |

Glad to get a bit of information about WND. I was a bit hesitant to order from them but based on the replies her I will pull the trigger and get Eyes Right Jones and A Few Good Men from them. Pat236 |

I bought five single fans from them on the Lily Auction this spring. The fans were healthy and larger than I would expect from Indiana. Only one has bloomed, Vivacious Spirit, and it was true to name. I cut the scape after I saw it was the right daylily and did not photograph the bloom because it wasn't the best representation of the plant. The others have not yet put up scapes. Debra |
