'Zelazny' is on the wish list. How trumpet shaped is it from a side view? All the photos I've ever seen make me think it's moderate, not really deep and not really flat. However, I haven't seen a photo from the side to really know. Donald |

Donald, you are correct. Stays trumpty on cool mornings but opens well by mid day. Keeps a little depth to it. Rarely lays out flat- only remember once- extremely hot day. I will try to add a side shot this summer. Love what you teach and teach what you love! |

Lilydaydreamer, Thanks for posting your beautiful picture of 'Zagora', that is my only "Z". I planted it this past summer and I can barely wait for it to make a beautiful clump like yours. |
Lilydaydreamer Feb 1, 2015 4:10 PM CST |
Larry, she is worth the wait. She does pout when moved but bounces back. I love her enough that I have tried to hybridize with her . . . stubborn pod parent. One day I pollinated EVERY open bloom (30ish) and they all took!!! I was offering everyone seeds from that cross. ![]() Love what you teach and teach what you love! |

I sure like Zelazny in your photos, Mike. I'm eyeing a potential source, but I have to control the numbers I acquire off that wish list. It's really gotten harder than you'd think for a daylily to make that list. As tempting as they are, the list gets unreasonable pretty fast and in terms of numbers I can reasonably grow here, it's already unreasonable. I'm beginning to memorize some that aren't on the list and every time I see a photo wonder why they aren't on the list. Usually a matter of the height not falling into the parameters I've set. For now, something needs to be on the list for me to consider a purchase. If not this year, then maybe another for Zelazny. Donald |
What a gorgeous clump of Zagora! Like the big green throat on Zelazny. Only one "Z" here and it's been shown a few times already..... Another oldie but goodie, very distinctive with the red chevron and veining, white midrib and the rippled edge on the petals and sepals. ![]() |
