One term to get us started with "V" this morning. Veining, a term used for a color pattern seen in daylilies. When the color of the veins is darker, lighter or a different color than the base color of the flower segments the pattern is called veining. And a few "V" named daylilies I grow... |

Viable, is my "V" word, hybridizers love for the seed to be viable. I don't do many seeds, just a few out of curiosity mostly. So I am adding a second "V" word for today, one that is very important to me...Value. When I am shopping for daylilies I am looking for value in a plant. One that will do very well in the garden. I want lots of bang for the buck so to speak. Healthy foliage, beautiful blooms, a large number of blooms and that followed by the bonus of re-bloom. Oh...all at a price of below $15.00, now that is "Value". |

Very large bloom, I like having some daylilies with very large blooms some of my Davisson and Goldner daylilies among others have this feature. I will try to get more pictures this coming season. Vigorous - I want a daylily that has strong scapes and multiplies fast. I got Yellow Ducky in the fall of 2011 and am happy with how sturdy the scapes are and how much it has multiplied. Vickie May all your weeds be wildflowers. ~Author Unknown |

Vindicated when you indulge in an impulse buy without checking with other daylily fans and finding it's a star performer. Longfields Beauty fulfills this criterion for me, an impulse eBay buy! Lots and lots of fragrant blooms with some diamond dusting and increases well. |

Very tall daylilies, I like having some very tall daylilies in a few spots. I know there are some in my garden just don't remember the heights on them off hand. These three are over 50 inches in height, I have quite a few that are more than 40 inches I recently added Scandinavia, Isabelle Rose and Banana Smoothie, the first two photos are from the database taken by other people, the third one is in the database taken by myself. Ooooh, Betty, those first two are beauties! ![]() I like variegated foliage on daylilies; I just wish there were more such plants. I have 'White Stripe', but the variegation is unstable and the clump has to be periodically rogued out. (It's past overdue for such... yet another garden chore for the ever-growing list...) I'm really surprised - and impressed - at all of the V terms that everyone has been able to pull out. The only term that I could think of was voluptuous. The dictionary definitions are: of, relating to, or characterized by luxury or sensual pleasure. synonyms: hedonistic, sybaritic, epicurean, pleasure-loving, self-indulgent; (of a woman) curvaceous and sexually attractive. synonyms: curvaceous, shapely, ample, buxom, full-figured; ![]() In terms of daylilies, my idea of a voluptuous daylily is one that is ample (large flowered), full-figured (no spiders, probably not most UFs, uncertain about sculpted daylilies, and crested daylilies need not apply (too masculine, imo)), curvaceous (as in gently recurved, not flat or chalice shaped), shapely and slinky (with gently looping feminine ruffles, not wide or stiff lace edges). ‘Linda’s Magic’ seems to me to be a voluptuous daylily, at least from the pics. (I supposedly have this plant (mis-IDs happen), but I've only seen it in bloom once, and I can't recall it looking quite like this.) 'Sacrament of Healing' certainly fits the ample, full-figured, curvaceous, and shapely requirements. Back again! 'Pure as Gold'! |
