m-m, not sure ;)... you mean they look so bristly, like those anti-tank hedgehogs? some broms just look like that - it's a thicket and with lots of spines too. no way to tidy it up - it's a very large planting too. under an even huger tree. these are large broms.
though in general Fairchild is quite tidy, but tidy is relative in the sub-tropics with all the rain, humidity and insects. there are lots of spider-webs too. have to go in waving arms or you'll walk right into it ;). i'll see if i can get a better pic of the planting off the camcorder to give you an idea of scale.

I like, has unusual interesting fruits, It also reminded me that anti-tank roadblock Hilarious!
It can be used as a hedge, to prevent the dogs run around in the garden. There is not the shadow of the high, no prevents in perspective.
I've had these augments Pandanus, every time I've been scratched. Big Grin
