I totally agree that most "garden" shows are now nothing of the sort. It used to be, that you could expect to see superb displays of plants and show-gardens from people that were actually growers. Then local nurseries started being replaced by "garden centers" selling cheap plants raised by the million in greenhouses half a continent away in another climate zone, and then the supermarkets and hardware stores realized they could sell plants too without knowing what they were or what to do with them, and the local, knowledgeable growers went out of business and disappeared. The last "garden" show I went to was so pitiful, I vowed never to go to another one. The pity of it is, people who attend these shows to get ideas about what to do with their yard go away thinking that gardening is all about power tools, lawn care, swimming pools, patio furniture, and outdoor lighting. Oh, and annual plants in a container.
