Hi Fred. Thanks for the welcome back. Please tell us what the DL are that have those scapes. Those are amazing and if you think that is "decent", I'd like to see your "outstanding"!

Becky, it's still looking good. Can't wait for the clump pic.

Kidfishing, I love the contrast between the purple and green. Hope they start opening for you.

I had some excitement in the garden this morning. Color Frenzy bloomed for the first time and knocked my socks off. This was a case of the bloom being even better than the hyb's pic. The second shot shows how it's nice and high above the foliage.

Candy Splash is a little better today
Thumb of 2015-05-25/Lalambchop1/5f750f

Dragonfly Dawn has a nice, high scape as well.

It Takes Two - FFO, had two blooms today. One single and one double.

Wishy Washy - FFO, was the same, with one single and one double. Jan Joiner says it does that, hence it's name.

Poly Parrot - FFO, was single today but still a pretty, delicate bloom.

Lalambchop1 - Beautiful blooms! Are those seedlings or are they the actual named & registered plants? If they are seedlings, do you know the pollen parent? (This is the May "seedling" thread.)

Great branching Fred and Becky, and a good reminder to look under the bloom at the plant!

Sure hope it warms up for your seedlings Ashton, the seedling has a nice pattern showing in there. Crossing pattern eyes with watermarks can give some unexpected but fabulous results! Can't wait to see the rest.

I can see why Color Frenzy knocked your socks off, that is one gorgeous double!

Lalambchop1 - Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Not to worry, I loved seeing them on this thread too! Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious!

Ashton - I agree with Char that your seedling has a very nice pattern, so I don't think you will be disappointed once the weather warms and it opens fully! I think you will be very pleased! Smiling

A few seedling blooms from today:

These 3 have unknown parentage. I really like the first one a lot. They also have some pretty good branching on a nice and sturdy scape!

This is another bloom on CCC53. I don't have as many "fancy" ones like this, so I am really enjoying these blooms! I know there are other registered and named daylilies that may look similar, but not in my garden. Noonday Dreams x Purple Crowned Fairy:

Thumb of 2015-05-26/beckygardener/a07574

And this is another bloom on Eagle's Gift x Spinefeld. I don't have any toothy blooms except this one. I think next year, the teeth might really show off. I am still surprised that the color is pastel instead of the reddish color like Eagle's Gift. Color dominance for the blooms are often a surprise to me!

I wonder if the eye pattern will be more prominent next year, too? The look of this bloom was totally unexpected. Nothing like I thought this cross would produce. Not at all! Blinking Blinking Blinking

EEE07 is interesting with the edge.

Put some color on CCC54 with them teeth and you would have something. Thumbs up

I forgot to post this one also. It's pod parent is either Roses in Snow or Mama's Cherry Pie. I had crosses using both of those as the pod parent. Seeds came from Sandi several years ago. These are some my first seedlings from her generosity. I have a special place in my heart for these pretty blooms!

Which pod parent do you think it is?

I have Roses in Snow so I will pick that one. When it's true to form it has no ruffled edge, but that's just what mine does.

Becky,
You are doing some good work there. I like the first one best.

Roses in Snow came from my "home nursery", Dan Hansen's Ladybug Daylilies, so I hope it's that one. When I was brand new to DL Dan said "come play in my garden and I'll teach you to hybridize." I was out there about 3 years. I owe him a lot for that.

Thanks y'all! I agree that my unknown pod parent does look like a Roses in Snow hybrid. It is truly one of my favorite parents and produces some beautiful children. Being one of my very first seedlings, it's like falling in love for the first time ... you never forget your first love. Lovey dubby Thumbs up That pod parent made a lasting impression on me which began my journey of growing daylilies from seeds!

Lalambchop1 - You are so fortunate to have been mentored by Dan Hansen at his Ladybug Daylilies nursery. I would love the opportunity to just talk to a hybridizer about his/her seedlings. I appreciate Fred's input here as that is probably the closest I'll ever get to a daylily breeder. Most of my learning curve has been from just hybridizing and growing daylilies in my own yard. I rarely even see daylilies for sale here at any local nurseries. Thank goodness for the internet and ATP!!!

Ashton - That is really weird that your Altered State X Bart Roberts seedling lost that dark eye band (or whatever it is called). Could it be the timing of when you took the photo? The eye bands on some of mine fade as the morning/day goes on. Usually they become more prominent with each passing 2-3 years from the first blooms. It's a beautiful rosy-red! Very eye-catching!

I walked out into my garden first thing this morning and saw this bloom. I have lots and lots of seedlings with more parent names than I can remember. But this one I knew right away which parents it came from. Blew me away! I don't know what it is about those green throats, but this one is a keeper!!!

CCC61 (Cradle of Bethlehem x Emerald Starburst):
Thumb of 2015-05-27/beckygardener/b939b7

About a half hour later, the color changed to this:
Thumb of 2015-05-27/beckygardener/547716

And by the end of a very hot day, it looked like this:
Thumb of 2015-05-27/beckygardener/bd2c48

It definitely fades as the day goes on, but I liked the bloom in every costume change! Smiling Seeing the color changes in my own garden, I now understand how the Plant Database has photos of cultivars where the blooms looks so different but are the same plant.

CCC59 (Dragonfly Dawn x Dragonfly Dawn) sibling seedling looks like it is wanting to become a double or something. This particular seedling gets more interesting with each bloom. Unfortunately, this is the last of the blooms on it for this year unless it reblooms. (Only 2 blooms.):
Thumb of 2015-05-27/beckygardener/7cbfdf

It, too, fades as the day heats up:
Thumb of 2015-05-27/beckygardener/4cea41

Guess who is reblooming? ZZZ31(Cherry Custard Cheesecake x Palace Garden Beauty) This is such a sweet blooming seedling that shows rust resistance, very fertile both ways, and has a nice sturdy scape with lots of buds!
Thumb of 2015-05-27/beckygardener/7860e3

Unknown parentage on this new bloomer:
Thumb of 2015-05-27/beckygardener/f1d785

AND I collected and dried my first seeds from the very first pods. ZZZ72 (Laura Mast x Dragonfly Dawn). 2 seed pods produced 10 seeds. It was crossed with itself as there were no other daylilies blooming that early. Thumbs up Hurray! Hurray!
