It finally opened!
I will admit, it's kind of ugly. But it does have a great pattern.
Hoping that its future blooms and siblings will be much prettier!

Thanks. About 5". I like it too but the scape isn't where I'd want it to be. I'll just use it as a bridge.

Fred - You are sure getting some really pretty and very unusual blooms! How many seedlings do you grow each year again? I know you grow a LOT!

Ashton - How many buds are on that scape?

Leslie - Pretty bloom. Is that a star pattern in the center?

I only had 2 new ones today. One wasn't anything exciting for it's first bloom. But the other one is yet another surprise....

The ID for this one is supposedly "Pod" parent (Francis of Assisi). Seed is from Mike. Pollen parent unknown. I am wondering about this though. The color is so far off from the pod parent. Maybe more like the unknown pollen parent? Or maybe I mislabeled it or Mike mislabeled the seed baggie?

My seedling CCC64.

CCC64 morning picture looks very nice!
Is it an edge no eye? I love those! Smiling

Becky,
It has about 15 buds. With a nice scape.

If you want to see a GREAT scape, look at this one.
I counted 35+ buds, and if that's not enough, it has about a 9" bloom!
The flower is just a huge round peach color, reminds me of My Cup Overflows.
Will post pic when it blooms.

Yup! No eye pattern! I, too, really love this new bloom! A very romantic-type of bloom, IMHO.

Glad you have plenty of buds on your "Not Guilty X Ripples And Reflections". I hope those flowers start opening up nice and pretty!

Your 35+ bud scape is amazing!!! Now THAT is a dream-scape! LOL! Terrific! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Great scape Ashton!!
I had cut my seedling planting to 1200 last year and would really like to plant 1600 this year (two beds) and keep it there, I just can't do the amount I was doing a few years ago and enjoy it.

We leave for Hattiesburg this morning, will be back here Monday morning. Have a great weekend everyone.

Well, guess what. In the same clump as the patterned one, this showed up.
It's different than the other one.
I don't know how it got there. This was a fancy cross so I wouldn't of put two seeds or plants in the same place...
This bloom is very big and nice! It does have a nice watermark.

This is a 4 year seedling.
It was supposed to be London Tower X Pikes Peak. I kind of doubt that. FFO

Don't know the cross on this one.
It's more of an orange in the garden.
Kind of reminds me of a Herrington daylily.

Ashton - Great branches and buds on that scape!!! I often question the parentage of some of mine, too, because there appears to be NO resemblance, but if you start checking the previous generation and/or the children of some of the parents, you suddenly see the traits being passed along. I never cease to be surprised by some every year. Always a pleasant surprise too!

40 blooms! Sounds like you are hitting your peak bloom time. Mine was a few weeks ago. Slowing down now, but I am seeing rebloom scapes emerging and my mid-season bloomers are starting to send up scapes, so I expect to have another round of blooms from new and previous bloomers. That is the nice advantage when you grow a lot of daylilies, you get a long season of blooms. I have a another 32 plus a few named ones that I need to create a new bed for. Been mulling where over and over in my head... Rolling my eyes.

A first re-bloom for CCC04 (Through the Looking Glass x Etched Eyes). This bloom is probably one of my largest. I can understand completely why everyone is just blown away by large blooms. This one is 7" and makes all the blooms around it look like miniatures. You can bet I'm using this one as a parent! The bud is as large as some of mine "after" they open up (5" buds):

I had about 15 blooms today, but the above one was the only one that caught my attention.

Becky,
Our peak bloom is about mid June.
I had 5 blooms two days ago, then 15 yesterday, today I had 40.
When in peak bloom, we will expect to have about a thousand in bloom. Smiling

I really like your Through The Looking Glass X Eched Eyes seedling!
It needs to be mixed with a more patterned one.. Just sayin. Whistling
Can you imagine a 7" patterned eye?

What a fun day to go out to the garden!
Got lots of new interesting seedlings!
These next three were all suppose to be Blue Desire X Vivid Butterfly.
But they're not, I did the cross myself, so there's no one to blame exept me. Hilarious!
This one is a 7 inch bloom!
Thumb of 2015-05-31/kidfishing/46a736
Look closely and you will see that this one has spots!
Kind of like Jerry Hyatt. I have to test the pollen to see if they are tets or dips.
Thumb of 2015-05-31/kidfishing/2633fd
Another one.
I am disappointed that they are not what they are supposed to be.
But I do like the spotted one!
Thumb of 2015-05-31/kidfishing/d74666
I like to do weird crosses, here's one it is Lil Red Wagon X Blue Desire.
I really want a red with a bluish eye. So I went back to a bluish eye on this seedling.
It's about a 4 inch bloom.
Thumb of 2015-05-31/kidfishing/c93b8b
This one might be the best of the day though.
45 inches tall only a 7 inch bloom though. (It was 9" last year)

I was eyeballing the scapes too! The spotted one is different, could be fun to work with. Like the white midribs too.
There was a hybridizer 8 -10 years ago, I'm thinking from the deep south maybe along the gulf, that was working on widening the white midrib stripes....he was making progress but I haven't heard or seen anything about him or his daylilies for several years.
