We are drowning here! The irises on this side of the house are doing ok for now, on the north side everything is getting a lot of leaf spot and rot, looking pretty bleak!

We had about 3/4 inch last night and so far this morning....but ,we are "behind" for the year by over 4", so it's not really a "bad" thing to get the moisture. It's not helping with the rot issues in the beds, but, nothing ELSE is helping with the rot issues in the beds , either

I doubt if we're getting any more rain here this season...I'm wondering if that's why I've had to stake so many
irises - some of them falling over at the base. Not a very big root system, even though the flowers have been
beautiful. Do you suppose that's because there wasn't enough moisture for the roots to go far down for? (sorry for the ungrammatical sentence!).

I was going to ask if the irises were floating in Enid!

yep. the ground is making gulping noises..... It has not rained this morning but is due to start this evening for another round. I will not mind as long as it is not severe weather.
Jan, I had not thought of the iris roots not going deep because of lack of moisture in the soil. I know it is better to water other garden plants infrequently and deeply than often and shallow as the roots will form along the surface only. .... (am I making sense to anyone but me today?)

Yep Bonnie you are! However, we have been in a severe drought here for how long? I have never watered my irises except for the first couple of days after I planted them and they do fine
I guess what I am trying to say is I just don't know janwax but I wouldn't think that should be the problem.

Four years for the drought, here, Lori. Well, it's all over now. The dogs and I just got out of the closet--still raining hard and some lightning, but, thankfully, the straight-line winds had diminished before getting to me and the tornadoes formed to the north and to the south.

Nope!

I must be tired, it took me awhile to figure out the NOPE was about climate change. I thought there for awhile you were "not safe" from the storms and I was trying to figure out what the heck you were doing on the computer if you were in the line of fire...(tornadoes, straight line winds and such) I better go to bed!!

Actually Lori I was in my hidey hole trying to take my mind off the fury. No power anyway. It is mostly passed me now. Whew.

Oh my Bonnie. I for one would not be in my fraidy hole typing on the cell phone. I am pretty sure I would be drinking something strong and praying it was over soon because if I was drinkin' I know peein' is next!

So glad it has passed for now, this weather is really getting old! I don't even know if we can go to work tomorrow there are so many roads closed that we are not sure we can get the semis where we need to be.
