Thoughts become things!
I just bought this beautiful, variegated succulent-type plant at the nursery today. Unfortunately, the employee was unable to tell me what it is. Any ideas?.

Thanks!

It's a Mesembryanthemum. I've seen the variegated ones, but have only grown the green varieties. There are a lot in the database here on All Things Plants. If you do a search and go through all the entries you might be able to narrow down which ones are possibilities for the one you have. They are attractive plants when well grown and not too hard to grow. I'm going to have to find some way to hang mine because my cottontails, jack rabbits and squirrels have developed a taste for it and I can't keep it looking good! Beware of the squirrels if you have them!

Welcome! to All Things Plants.

I've grown them a couple of times and love it.

Sighing! ! Nomenclature!##?&&. So do all the Mesembryanthemum varieties showing in the DB need to be changed to Dorotheanthus? Are are the powers that determine the real names still debating which name is to be used? Some day there is going to be DNA testing for plants so it becomes more stable - I hope!

Don't think so, Donald, I just found this comment on the name on ATP when I was Googling for that information myself:

Looks like the database was on top of this one! Good job.
