Since it is after midnight here, I figured it was time to start a new seedling thread.

These are bloom photos to share from Sunday's seedling blooms. This one is CCC66 (Cindy's Tie Dye x Bluegrass Music). Stats are weird on this one ...Only 1 bud on a very short 5" scape with a 5" bloom. This one would have made me laugh more but the bloom was rather impressive despite it's stature:
CCC66:

Thumb of 2015-06-01/beckygardener/0c6c65

Another bloom on CCC58:

Thumb of 2015-06-01/beckygardener/422be4

Another bloom on CCC67. This has unknown parentage. It reminds me of Alfalfa from Spanky and Our Gang with the appearance of a cowlick. Hilarious! Hilarious! I also like the heart pattern!:

Thumb of 2015-06-01/beckygardener/0021cf

And this new one caught my attention from the front garden bed. Also unknown parentage. I like the cheerful orange color. EEE15:

This made me laugh out loud to see the taller CCC04 right next to the very short CCC66:
They look like opposites in size. I did cross them with each other though to see what I might get!

Becky - CCC66 is a stunner bloom. Too bad about only having one bud on it and its stature. Maybe it will improve next year. The second one has a very nice pattern.

I hope you saved the pollen from 66. It looks so white, and thats hard to get. Well its just a looker all around. It needs a date with a tall bud builder.

As I have lamented many times before, my best flowers have come off scapes with no leaves and one bud. I think they must try extra hard when tho know they are not going to make it and need to leave some good genes behind. Shrug!

66 is beautiful. A lot of times I have first scapes that don't do what they're supposed to. I hope it improves.

Ashton - Very pretty blooms! I like Suzanne's Jewels X Rose F Kennedy a lot! Lovey dubby

Char, Peggy, Karen, Ashton, Debra, Pam, Leslie - I have to totally agree with you about the first two in the above photos. I used the pollen of CCC66 on all the other tets in bloom that day until the pollen ran out. It is a stunning bloom, just a bit negative on the rest of the plant. But what I have noticed over the years is that the first year they are small fan(s), the second year they bloom sparcely, and the third year they really start putting on a show. I hope that is what most of these do in the years to come. There are leaves on CCC66, but they are not large leaves so I think the plant is just small right now. I expect it to put on some growth over the year and hopefully next year will have a nice size scape with more blooms. We shall see. Photo #2 is a mini bloom. This is a 3" bloom. I think once the plant really starts growing and making more fans it is going to be a very cute miniature bloom daylily clump. Being that these are all just 1 - 1 1/2 old year old seedlings, most are small plants. I don't have the green thumb to grow them big like Fred and other hybridizers the first year. So it takes them several years to really reach their potential. I do have several fans that are emerging from the ground (I am sure they are true dormants) and those will not last but maybe another year. I probably won't even get blooms from them but I've been surprised before.

I happen to have an unknown parentage bloomer that has a similar color pattern on the bloom as CCC58. The bloom is bigger and not as cute as CCC58, but I do love the contrast between the near-white and deep pink colors on the flowers. This one is #074:

Thumb of 2015-06-02/beckygardener/1dd4a3

CCC11 (Stippled Statement x unknown) re-blooms. This plant is one of my favorites because the foliage is showing some rust resistance, it produced a LOT of blooms and reblooms, is fertile both ways, and I love the flowers. The bloom colors are not everyone's cup of tea, but it is quite the performer in my garden and it is something different from all the rest. :

Thumb of 2015-06-02/beckygardener/893b6a

Another bloom on CCC64. I love the colors of this bloom. It is supposed to be Francis of Assisi x unknown .... but can Francis produce such a bloom????

A cluster of blooms from an unknown parentage clump in my hot front garden bed. EEE13:

And last is another rebloom of ZZZ31. This is becoming another favorite of mine. The blooms are always perfect! Looks very similar to it's pod parent. I was surprised at such a green eye this morning! Seeds from Cindy! Cherry Custard Cheesecake x Palace Garden Beauty:

We are supposed to have some rain in the forecast this week. We need the rain, but that will likely ruin my blooms and make hand-pollinating impossible. I have a LOT of pods on scapes right now, so I figure if the pod production slows down, then it's because I will have more seeds than I know what to do with! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Ashton - Yes, I heard about all the rain (flooding) y'all have gotten. That storm that moved across the USA really did a number in many states! Looks like there is something brewing out in the Gulf, so we will probably be getting rain from that storm system.

This is a first year blooming for CCC64, so the bud count was nothing exciting. 6 buds on a single scape from a small fan. I think it will improve next year. I, too, love it. The colors are old fashioned romantic! It is also showing some rust resistance at this point. Fall will be the real test. But it is definitely a possible candidate for registering. I have several that I am thinking might be worth registering, but I want to give them another year or two to see how they perform and if their bud count goes up, scape structure improves, and rust resistance is constant. I know I won't get all those characteristics, but I am hopeful. I am naming them in memory or honor of loved ones. My most beautiful patterned seedling will be named in honor of my baby sister who is currently battling cancer. She deserves to have the most beautiful patterned bloomer because of all that she has gone through and continues to go through. It is pink, too, with multiple colors in the pattern. (See my avatar.) I'm glad I take pictures of my seedling blooms from time to time, and here are a couple of examples of siblings from the same cross and how the blooms have changed/evolved since they first bloomed last month.

The cross is PRECIOUS CANDY x XYLOPHONE JAZZ

I liked the first seedling right off the bat because of the edging so it's a keeper at least for now.

1st bloom 5/2/15
Thumb of 2015-06-02/Betja/cf2747

5/8/15
Thumb of 2015-06-02/Betja/584b12

And then 6/1/15 - What a difference!
Thumb of 2015-06-02/Betja/7e5a7c

I wasn't sure about the second seedling but decided to keep my eye on it because the white area is just about the whitest I have seen, plus the purple does really look purple, not burgundy.

First bloom 5/8/15
Thumb of 2015-06-02/Betja/59c8cb

5/12/15 - Getting less thrilled about this one...
Thumb of 2015-06-02/Betja/c80730

5/30/15 - WOW! I almost can't believe it's the same daylily! But I double-checked, and it is!
Thumb of 2015-06-02/Betja/f86f03

These two seedlings are from the same cross, believe it or not -- and I'm pretty sure I got the seeds from Dot (Ladylovingdove). So thank you Dot!!! Hurray!

Betty
