I'm looking for a good way to keep track of my daylily crosses (and, perhaps, to keep track of what other plants I own). I've considered just creating an excel file or a website with a semi-sophisticated table, but I'm hoping for something easier with greater functionality. Thumbs up

Functions I need:
* Keep track of Daylily Crosses
* Photos for each cultivar (preferably space for multiple photos with photo notes and/or slideshow capability)
* Place to put my own notes about each daylily
* Prefer something that does a garden map
* Something that allows links (to ATP, for example) is preferred
* Searchable for certain features (such as "red" or "fragrant")

I see that a decent number of people use PlantStep to organize their daylily lists on their website for selling and, presumably, to track their daylily crosses, but I was curious if it's the best one out there. Who here uses it and what are your thoughts? They don't appear to offer a trial version, but I haven't contacted the software company yet, does anyone know if they do trial periods? Shrug!

Does anyone else have a solution that works great other than PlantStep?

They don't offer a trail period but the program is only around thirty dollars and includes all future updates. I don't think you can get a better program than PlantStep for the money. I use mine to keep track of all my plants including daylilies. Go to their website for more information on the program. http://www.plantstep.com/index...

I agree! It is a very efficient, thorough, and useful program. The programmer (customer support) is terrific if you have questions, suggestions, or a problem with the software. I don't know of anything else better either. I love Plant Step!

I didn't realize it was a situation where you pay for it and they send you the program later. I had hoped to start putting in my daylilies, pictures, and hybridizing information right away. Sad I guess I'm so used to instant-gratification software purchases.

Does anyone know, generally, how long it takes them to realize a payment has come through and send the program via email?

It would have only been a day for me, but my email saw it as spam, so it took a few days to figure out that it was in my junk file.

It might take a day or two. I think it took 1 or 2 days for me to get the downloadable link. I am sure that Kent is busy with other projects or he might be on vacation or something else, too. The program is worth the wait, regardless.

I keep checking my email and my spam folder. Nothing yet. Whistling

Doesn't Kent know he's not allowed to take vacations, eat, sleep, or do anything else when I want software from him? LoL! Hilarious!

Ah well. I'm really looking forward to seeing it come in my email, but I guess I can be patient. Maybe today will have to be a calibrachoa and petunia planting day instead of a daylily data-updating day. Rolling my eyes.

Kent, I just saw your post--thank you! I've already emailed you, as you know, but I wanted to thank you publicly for the great support you've been giving me through email, I really appreciate it! I'm working on getting some of my daylilies updated as I type this.

BTW, just a note...

** In your database you have "Libby's Trail" listed as "Libby's Train" Hilarious! **

Is there an easy way to submit change requests for database info that you have in the software in case I come across others in the future?

Plant Step Users -- can you tell me what I'm doing wrong with creating crosses?

I've pollinated a bunch of my flowers and I've recorded the dates, by hand, of each cross. Now, I'm trying to input all of that data into the Plant Step program and I'm having trouble. I think the issue might somehow be related to not creating a new cabinet, but I'm not certain of that.

Here's what I've tried:

1) First, I tried going to the "Pollination Cross Planning" tab, clicked "add," and put in the pod parent and pollen parent directly. I put in the pollination date and selected "pollinated" in the "status" drop-down menu. As I did this, it added the information to the grid. When I clicked on "save," the information deleted itself from the grid.

Then, I did the following:

2) I clicked on the "Hybridize Matcher" tab, selected the pod parent, pollen parent, then clicked on "Create 1 Pollination Cross" (I left the radio button File Cabinet "Main" selected.) This let me to the grid with the information put in, but, again, when I hit "save", it disappeared. Glare

Is it possible that it's creating these crosses and tucking them away somewhere I can't see? Confused

Thank you for any help you can give me!

Okay, I feel stupid. *Blush* The crosses were being created, but I didn't see the radio button that toggles between "plannings", "pollinations", and "seedlings".

Y'know, somehow it often works out that right after I finally ask how to do something, I figure it out. But, at least I know how to do it now! Hurray!

Thank you all for your unspoken moral support, I'm sure that played a part. ;) Big Grin
