Dave gives them acorns, the others would be bonus acorns, just like at work, if there is no money in the bank, no bonus gets paid, sorry. I doubt everyone would ever be out of acorns, and a good comment would be rewarded I would hope!

That is only if others give acorns to a cultivar that they are NOT interested to know about. How many cultivars do you think are in the Daylily Database? My guess is thousands! I don't have thousands of acorns nor do I believe anyone else does either. Why should info for a particular cultivar be rewarded while others are not. I have this thing about fairness and reward ......

With the upcoming raffles, I think folks would want to earn as many acorns as they can to buy tickets. You might be surprised at how such an offer might motivate others here on ATP! Big Grin

I would gladly give an acorn for a comment on a plant I grow or was interested in, if I had only a few acorns. If I had several thousand I might give an acorn for each comment on each plant, or I might just win all the raffles. It just depends on where your interests lie and your acorn stash!

I know acorns are an incentive for some, but as was mentioned above, I would hope a greater motivator would be an interest in passing along the knowledge gained over the years of growing a certain cultivar. I know this forum is based on a group of people who have a keen interest in learning about and sharing their knowledge about daylilies. I know I enjoy giving away a plant to a neighbor or friend, but I enjoy it just as much when I can give them a helpful bit of information about a plant also.
Someone called me the other day, and asked about some hostas I had given them, and they mentioned they had bought several more.I was able to give them (from my very limited knowledge about hostas) a little info they found helpful, that made me feel pretty darned good.

Larry - I don't think it is that people don't enjoy "sharing" info. I think it is also about someone willing to take a few minutes in their busy day to post a comment or update info about a cultivar.

It seems that when a raffle is coming up, people are more inclined to add to the database to earn some quick acorns. At least that is what I have noticed. Maybe I am wrong as I don't have the number crunching to know for sure. Dave would know. I think that is the main reason he does the raffles. To motivate people to add to the database or write articles for ATP.

I really think this is a good idea. It could solve the problem of what to do when I go to edit a cultivar and someone has already entered info that is different from what I would have written. I don't feel comfortable erasing what they wrote so I just leave it be. I don't know about on a computer (I use my phone) but there doesn't seem to be a way to add bud counts, branching etc from multiple people.

Also, I do think we need Dave involved. I think we could encourage busy people to enter data if we had a kind of form instead of a narrative comment. I tend to get wordy in my comments. Other people are really vague and say it's pretty and grows well. We just need to decide exactly what info we want and how detailed we want it.

As for acorns, either way is fine with me.

I certainly agree with the form idea, I had no idea how to implement that! I would be for that 100 percent, still I also like having a way to give a narrative comment, they can lend a little insight to some things a form does not. Say I check bud count 25-30, but then comment that this plant was fertilized three times with heavy nitrogen fertilizer in the period of six months. Still, a filled out form, is way better than no comment and no form.

I think, not sure, that the bud count, the branching, the color description etc. is entered from the AHS info, and that is all done by the person registering the plant, so I don't think any of that can be changed for daylilies. I know of many plants you can actually add info, but I have never done it with daylilies.

Becky, I didn't even know about these raffles but I have been doing some updating of the DB myself, simply because it is that time of the year when the daylilies are in bloom and I can see them to comment on the database pages. I wonder if it's a similar coincidence for some other people, too? Maybe not, though. The raffle sounds interesting. Where do I go to find out more about when the raffle(s) is(/are)? I don't know anything about them.

Larry - I have proposed changes to the database before; particularly, as it concerns fragrance. I haven't done a lot of update proposals, but I have done a few. I have also added additional color information on one or two...

....which you just reminded me!... Hurray!

...when I do an ATP search for particular colors of daylilies, I don't believe most of them show up when they should. I think it is because the color description is only entered as text on most daylily entries, but no one ever checks the checkboxes for color. Has anyone else ever noticed this, too? Shrug! Confused

I'm not sure I want to roll that into the bud/branch/foliage form/thread, but it is something we should all be aware of. I'm going to try and edit it for the daylilies that I see in my garden (or see firsthand in other gardens) as time goes on and it's something we could probably all chip away at in our spare time (hah!). Hilarious!

Also...everyone keeps saying we should let Dave in on this, but I don't know how to contact Dave. Is his username simply "Dave"? I assume he is the founder of ATP, or maybe a webmaster? Or both? Confused

...and I noticed Larry just found the one that I updated the color info on! Big Grin Notice how there is a "Color Description" and a "Flower Color:" on So Many Stars? ...I think the "Flower Color:" is what pulls results when someone does a search for flowers of a particular color in the database. Am I right?

Ashton, thank you!!!! Congrats on your recent wins, those are pretty good prizes! Who donates the prizes?

I think I have a few acorns. Enough to buy atleast one ticket, anyway. But thank you for the offer to donate acorns. Smiling Maybe I'll try doing my color updates tonight and tomorrow instead of putting them off for another day! And I think I have two new flowers that will be in bloom in the next few days so that I can take photos...

DogsNDaylilies,
Notice that "Color Description" did not change form the original info, and I think that will be the case for all that info in the upper portion(Data Specific To Daylilies". In the lower boxes (General Plant Information)... "Flower Color" has been an almost useless box in the daylily database, but since you brought it up, I can see that it could be used by others to add color comments, even though I think it would go unnoticed being it has been that way so long. So putting that type of info in the comments section would probably been seen more by more experienced users of the database, and your way would be seen more by people thinking that was like the "Color Description" box, I know that is a little confusing, took me a few searches to figure that out.
Edit:
Notice that there are two search boxes "Color Description' and down further the box you used "Flower Color".
