Nobody has started an August seedling thread... I was asked in another thread about showing some of the seedlings I've seen in the beds this year. I know most everyone likes the patterns and finally have a few sorted. I don't do very many pattern crosses anymore and don't put much thought into crosses with them. Mostly whatever is open and catches my eye, might make 4 or 5 crosses a day.

These are a few that have bloomed from Shoulda Coulda Woulda...

and from Shattered Illusions. The first is a sdlg that was kept from a single cross with SI that bloomed 2 years ago, I have been going against my not so many pattern crosses and using it a lot this year on different things Smiling

These other 4 are new this year....sdlg x SI...

A little bit of a lift to show the pattern on the sepals is ok, but deep canoeing is one fault I really don't like. Came from an old 2010 sdlg out of Huckleberry Candy x Guided By Voices that is a parent of the sdlg I crossed with SI. Grumbling They may get better with another year....the third one most likely is not worth even working with.

Happy Sunday, all. Beautiful day here in the mountains. I just have 1 new seedling to show today, and only a few more to go in my sdlg. beds.

'Sdlg. 'Fantasy Fringe X 'Royal Cypher' - 3 yr.old sdlg. that bloomed last year for the first time. I held it over because I liked it. Amazing substance on this plant. Color is the palest of yellow/cream with a huge yellow eye which blends into this phenominal mauvish/purple outline from its parent 'Fantasy Fringe that extends out almost to the end of each petal. The double edge is frilly and consistent. The sepals are showing a slight pattern. Scape is 20", flower is 6". 9 buds.Since this is a maiden bloom, I expect this flower to deepen in color as the temps cool down here. And eventually I will move this plant to the main garden.

Char & Alex - So glad to see that some still have some seedlings blooming. You two sure have it going on in your gardens! Love all the seedlings above. Patterns are my personal favorite, so those photos are a treat to see, Char!

Alex - That bloom is gorgeous. It really has such a nice form, edging, and ruffles! Wow! So much going for it! Has the blooms changed much from last year?

I agree with Char, Cindy. There is something about green neon throats that make me stop and stare.

Thanks, Char. The first one is more of a salmon pink ( or a little more orange to it). Probably time to upgrade to a newer camera next year.

Char.....Betty is right, the 1st picture from 'Shattered illusions' has a phenomenal pattern. Definitely a keeper, and great one to work with. Char, can you explain what 'canoeing' is. I think I understand, but would rather you give the explanation. Thx.

Ken...Love seeing teeth on the sdlg. thread. I like the 1st toothy picture of RCX VH

Alex, canoeing refers to the edges(margins) of the segments curling inward toward the upper surface. The botanical term would be involute. Sometimes you can follow a line of daylilies that appear to carry this trait. We had a brief discussion in the thread linked below about it last year...
The thread "feature connected to pattern?" in Daylilies forum

This was the seedling I was referring to as exhibiting the trait. It may get better, new sdlgs sometimes have trouble getting their act together the first year. Rolling my eyes.
