needrain said:I thought the pod parent was always listed first, but I'm not sure that's standard throughout the plant world. Surely there is a botanical standard that applies to plants for this, though??

It is a horticultural convention to record the pod parent first, whereas with animal breeding it is the other way around which is confusing for people coming into plant hybridization from raising animals. I don't believe there is a mandatory standard with plants though, it's just a convention and individual international cultivated plant registration authorities (ICRAs) such as the AHS specify the order - all that I've seen require pod parent first.

Under the international botanical code of nomenclature it is a "recommendation" to list species crosses in alphabetical order, also optionally listing which parent is male and which female with the standard symbols or putting the female parent first, in which latter case "If a non-alphabetical sequence is used, its basis should be clearly indicated."

However, that's the botanical code of nomenclature whereas plant cultivars such as named daylilies come under the separate horticultural code of nomenclature (ICNCP). I don't think there is any specification in that for listing parent order other than a mention of the botanical code where the parents of a hybrid are species rather than cultivars.

I love all those Glen. I'm quite partial to oranges & vibrant, deep yellow/golds. but then I love reds too, oh & deep pinks catch me. I guess lavender & purple are the only ones that don't really grab me. Hilarious!

Glen - They are all lookin' good! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

I do have one question though .... how is the rust resistance on Planet Max? I obtained that one this summer and am wondering about the susceptibility or resistance of rust on the foliage.

Becky, Planet Max is susceptible. I would rate it about 3.5. At worst 4 - but it does fight back.

Woah, all these months there's been a feast of daylilies, and the first one opened for me here in Antartica only a couple of days ago.

Enchanting Blessing, second bloom of the season - this is the third summer I've had it and the first time it's flowered for me!:

Really love all the blooms, but for some reason Carrot Cake takes the cake with me Rolling on the floor laughing

Looking forward to seeing your seedlings Della.

Glen, your Milanese Mango seedling looks awesome. It looks like it has a nice sturdy, tall scape to support it.

One of mine, an earlier hybrids out of Crikey! Just started blooming in the last two days.
Alas I can not claim perspicacity for a cute cross. It was a bee or some other industrious creature.

That is a cute little seedling bloom. Is this the very first bloom from this seedling? Sometimes the blooms change over a 3 year period when they finally stabilize. I see a border on that baby that might eventually extend around the entire petals. Love the colors! Thumbs up

Becky, this is its second year flowering. In 2014 they were such scrappy blossoms I had neither remembered the clump nor cared. Now I am all eyes. Do you think it will continue to change?

They looked like this last year.

It could stay the same or it could start showing more edging on the petals, the eye could change to larger or smaller, etc. The third year seems to be the stable version in most cases if the plant is in a "happy" location where it is thriving.

I think it is beautiful! Lovey dubby Thumbs up
