Did I stump everyone? Don't go make me go talk to my neighbor! She's nice, it's just that I have social anxiety disorder. I really feel like I've seen this somewhere before and just can't quite put my finger on it.

I just sat down at the computer and my first thought is that this is two different plants. Like a weedy-wildflower growing up through a shrub. But I'm not a botanist. I'll dig around a bit and see what I can find.

Well, you've described my neighbor's entire yard pretty accurately! That's why a lot of the neighbors gossip about her "weeds". I can always walk down there and take more pictures!

That looks like a happy Brillantaisia lamium, it is all the same plant, not a shrub. I met it in Brazil..

Myriam, all the way from Belgium to tell us about a Brazilian plant! I love the internet! Seriously, that's so cool! And that's definitely it. The flowers, the leaves, the seedpods, everything looks the same. Now I just wonder how my neighbor got it? Well, Florida has a lot of tropical plants. Who knows? But I may have to tease her for it not being native.

It even gets more 'complicated' Melanie, the plant actually is native to west and central Africa! So it is an immigrant in Brazil..
