Sunflower seed experts, I need your help! I know varieties like Mammoth Grey are grown for their tasty seeds, but I don't know if other varieties such as my "Evening Sun" and "Autumn Beauty" also produce edible seeds. Confused I purchased them as organic seeds, so I want to assume that they are edible, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Remembering tha "expert" is just an unknown drip under pressure, I disclaim any expertise. But since no one else has answered, I will say that to best of my knowledge all sunflower seeds are edible. The small ornamentals have very small seeds and are probably not worth the effort except as bird seed.

Yup, those small seeded ones are food for the Goldfinches around my garden.

I cannot answer if all sunflower seeds are edible or not, but I can tell you there are sunflower seeds that taste better than others. I purchase organically grown edible sunflower seeds from different sources and I definitively have a favourite one. Unfortunately, they are only labeled as 'sunflower seeds', but they vary slightly in shape and greatly in taste.

For what it's worth I've grown a few varieties (some from bird seed) and ate the seedlings of them all and lived to tell the tale.
