I got this from a local gardener who said it was a needle flower tree but when I googled it, the leaves look very different from needle flower trees.

Looks like a very healthy plant.
Try using the botanical names Posoqueria longiflora and Posoqueria latifolia in a Google Image search.
Sunset Zone 28, AHS Heat Zone 9, USDA zone 8b~"Leaf of Faith"
