Another one bites the dust! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

RATS! It doesn't even look like Emily is going to give Palm Beach & Martin counties any rain. Only down Miami way. Grumbling

Well, how is everyone fairing with the storms. I got up at 4am to let the dogs out and get ready for work when I found 4 inches of standing water by the garage door where the grading is bad. I had to go out with the shovel & flashlight and dig a drainage ditch along the house to the side gate to allow the water to run off as it was level with the garage floor and about to come in uninvited. What a way to get your adrenalin flowing before work. LOL It has been raining here pretty much non stop for 2 days now.
We need to get a big fan and blow it over to Texas for awhile.

We've been getting some pretty regular rain here for about the past 6 weeks now. Hurray!
I tell you, it sure is nice to live somewhere where it actually rains rather than "the desert" we moved from. They only yesterday got a little bit & I mean a little bit. No soaking there!

Sorry Jan. That IS a lousy way to begin the day! SHEESH!

Yep 2 days. I called home earlier and my son said the standing water had drained and called back a half hour later and said it was back up again so he was going to go widen the drainage ditch. I really need to have the yard regraded. It was like a monsoon here this morning from about 7am to 9am or so.

According to radar you should be drying out some right about now & the rain is moving southward of your locale.

Odessa struck the jackpot. 6.3 inches of rain yesterday and rain all of this morning and off and on this afternoon. I'm changing out the agaves and yuccas for a rice field. Hilarious!

After the terrible drought weather we left behind in TX. I find myself just sitting out to watch the rain as if it were a performance of some sort. Today, my dh came out to find me sitting at the end of the opened garage and asked what on earth was I doing. My reply: Everytime it stops for a while (it's been raining here for several days now) I run out and pull some weeds. He soon joined me and we almost conquered the whole front yard.

They say tomorrow we should be going back to just the usual evening rains. That will be nice, but no complaints from a Texas transplant that came here so parched and dry as to never want to be that dry again!

Weeds pull out so easily when it is wet and the flowers just love the water, I love Florida!

Now as far as the hurricanes go, I grew up in the east TX gulfcoast area. We had hurricanes there so, I'm an old hand at surviving them. The worse experience I endured was when I was still a teenager, Hurricane Carla sent floods and tornados that just about wiped out the town I lived in, We actually saw a tornado go right down the street across from our house. That one killed six people and took out the water system and electric poles. We had no water or electric for several weeks. I did homework by a lantern because my street lost every electric pole on it for about three blocks, so we were one of the last ones to get electricity.

During hurricane Rita my dh and I lived in central TX., but we had hordes of people in our area that had evacuated to there. My dh and I took several trips down to Buna, TX with a lowboy full of supplies for those that were staying at the firestation there. We took everything from generators to diapers. Our town rallied to help fill the lowboys for us.

I am hoping we don't have to evacuate because it seems to me that it might be quite a jammed road going straight north from here. If the order comes, I'll have to choose to go early or hunker down.

Charlene

Lehigh Acres is in Lee County, near Fort Myers and Cape Coral and Immokolee. We are a 35 min. drive to the nearest beach.

On the news recently it was talking about Lehigh Acres being a good area for folks living in low lying areas to plan on going in case of flooding. I took that as a good thing I hadn't already been aware of. So, I am thinking that we are in a reasonably good place. Not too close to the coast, and on high grounds, seems like a good idea to me. I don't mind the drive to get to the beach, although I sometimes envy those in the condos on the waterfront. I suppose they all have to evacuate early if there is any doubt about a hurricane hitting the coast. I can kind of hang back awhile to see if it is really coming and what catagory it is predicted to be.

Charlene -- sounds like you have a good spot. Stay there & stick it out. I didn't realize you were quite that far south --- I was thinking just south & west of Tampa-ish. In Fl. you don't want to get stuck in the "big Exodus" going north. Heard too many stories of people driving (or sitting on the Interstate) for 5/6 hrs.just to turn back home.

I am up in Jax, usually the storms come in the back door to get us. I like of a small hill, there is water all around us but to really flood our area the hurricane would have to come take a left turn and come straight up the river
