KD, I looked around and found this article for you: http://www.pacificrisa.org/pla...

Curious too how it goes on your side. So in the Climate item there, it talks about the northeast trade winds..that is part of that Siberian High. In our country we call it Hangin Amihan which refers to the cool northeast tradewinds. I remember feeling glad when I hear our weather forecasters talk about Amihan winds, it means our super rainy season is coming to an end and will be getting the cool air Smiling

Tarev, thanks for the link. The info specifically is about CNMI; on one of the maps, there is a line dividing Guam from the rest of the Marianas...politically.

"The Mariana archipelago was initially settled by Chamorro migrants from Southeast Asia around 2000 BC. All the inhabited islands of the archipelago share an ancient history and culture; however, they are now politically separated into the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Territory of Guam."

Territory of Guam, meaning United States territory, meaning, everyone born on Guam is a U.S. citizen. Whereas, in Saipan, one can declare their citizenship to be U.S. or not. It's really too complicated to discuss here, but it is very interesting.

Oh that's okay, I like history Smiling I was looking more at the Climate description they have there. The islands are small, so pretty much same overall influence when the cool air goes through, I think.

You're sweet! Smiling My flowering plants like plumerias, orchids and adeniums perform so much better during the cooler months of October through May with intermittent rains. And we have more of the nice cool trade winds then. For that matter, I perform better then too! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Dutchlady1 said:When you have the least amount of leaves - that is when I would consider your plant to be dormant.
Looking at it, you could probably dig it up with crate and all and plant it again with the crate; I would be careful not to rip off too much of the root system. If you can cut the crate off that would be preferable of course.

Keep us posted!

Thank You! Hetty! Smiling

If it were me, I would use a saws all to cut the outer portion of the crate. Being careful, of course. Then use a fork and dig around the perimeter about a foot or so away from the plant and go down deep. A spading shovel would likely come in handy. Once the plant was freed use a hose and tools to remove the bottom of the crate. Being careful of course of all the roots.

@DavidLMO
So it's okay to hose off the soil to show bare root? This way I can cut the crate, being careful to avoid roots? Sounds like a plan, David. Thumbs up

From what I have read here and elsewhere it should not be a problem. I would have my other planting hole ready so that it can be replanted as soon as possible. Others, more experienced, will correct me if I am off base here. Smiling Well - I was just trying to figure out how to get rid of the crate - particularly the bottom. I guess you could always leave it on.

Many plants are separated/divided this way (spraying down with a hose). I just did day lilies yesterday and have done so with hosta, iris, tulips, daffodil, naked ladies, trumpet lily, agapanthus and many others.

I like David's suggestion. But again, it would be preferable to wait until the plant is dormant. If you don't want to wait, remove (clip off) most of the leaves to diminish transplant shock.

I agree with Hetty. Dormancy lightens the load of transplanting/disengagement. I guess it really depends on whether Mother Nature forces you to make the move ASAP.

KD, I would choose between the months of Dec to Feb to do the uproot, cool temps in place by then. Smiling I have always found October to carry the stronger rainfall or arrival of stronger typhoons.

I am sure you guys are right about waiting until dormancy. We are having our "wet" period right now...Nov through Mar are not so wet.

Thank You! guys for your advice!
