Mary: I also nick my seeds before soaking. Easiest way I've found to do this is using nail clippers and tweezers.

Is that photo current, is the plant still in full bloom now? After the blooms fade, you will see pods forming, the pods will turn brown in color as they age. When I grew Moonvine here in Florida I would see pods forming usually in late September and early to mid October. To give you and idea of what to watch for, there are photos of seed pods and seeds in our database: Moon Vine (Ipomoea alba)

BeKind,
If you could please complete your profile information we'd know your location and climate and can give more accurate answers.
Thanks. Thank You!

Oh, and when you typed "Ictober is just around tge corner." I laughed myself silly; sometimes a typographical error is more accurate that the correct word. Yes, Icky...Ictober...which brings us the beginning of cold weather. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

These are old photos from a few years ago when I grew the Moon Flower. The photos show different stages of the seedpods as they age from green to brown:

Do you have to wait until they turn brown to take from vine. I live in Michigan and we are under a freeze watch now. On the vine they have not turned brown.

I would suggest leaving the vine alone.
The seeds may continue to mature even after a freeze, but if picked green... The seeds are unlikely to be viable.
I wait until the pods split open before gathering the seed.

Could you throw a blanket over the plant to help protect it from the freeze, just until the seeds mature?

I agree
Try to protect the plant from the worst of the weather with a blanket, old quilt, whatever you can spare. If rain is predicted you may want to cover the blanket with a tarp to keep it dry...I learned from experience that wet blankets can get very heavy.

Your vine is beautiful. Thumbs up

Bekind - where are you located? You should add that info and Zone to your account.
A freeze will clobber the seeds.
Are you growing any other ipomea types in the area?
