Gum Balls Can Be Your Friend!

I've been told all my life, you have to use what the good Lord gives you! Well, in the summer I get the shade from the gum tree, but in the winter months I get those dreaded gum balls everywhere. I decided there had to be something I could do with them.

This is a wonderful idea. The plants in pots that stay outside in my yard during the winter will all be wearing "gum ball coats" this year. Even if the seeds manage to sprout they will be easy to identify and to pull. Thanks for the great idea. Thank You! Thumbs up

My husband keeps wanting to use them as a mulch alternative under our huge Juniper hedge. Although I agree that it might be a good idea we haven't tried it yet as I need to get under there twice a year to clean out any unwanted weed growth. We had some sever damage to the hedge a few years ago from a storm that opened up the canopy and allowed some sunlight to reach the soil and weeds grew as a result. But now the damage is repairing it's self and there are fewer and fewer weed issues. I think that we may give this a try either this Fall or next.
I really like the idea of using them as a mulch in pots. I have a lot of big tropical pots and the squirrel just love digging in them. We don't have a Gum Tree but my daughter has an endless supply of them.

Great ideas Thumbs up I am ducking as I make the next comment Whistling I wish I had a gum tree or knew where one was. I like to use the balls in wreaths and decorating for fall and winter. Note to self....put some bags in the jeep in case you are lucky enough to come across a sweetgum tree.

No need to duck. I'm sure the whole world would gladly mail you every gum ball in their yard if you paid the postage.
Or hey, come on over to Savannah, bring bags and gloves and help yourself. Thumbs up

Rolling on the floor laughing I wish, but if I'm lucky enough to get away as you know, it will be to visit my daughter and family.
