Despite the impending snow storm Silva Orchids is having their Open House this weekend, starting today. Klaus and I are driving down in a while.
Woohoo!👠💥
Not too many people showed up today because perhaps people were afraid to get caught by snow on the way home. It was no problem whatsoever, we even took a small detour to visit my daughter, her birthday is today.
It was so much fun to look at the greenhouses and chat Orchids with Joe and Anthony. I just took pictures for sheer eye candy, hope you enjoy. I have the names for most of them, but not all.
The very first plant and the one in the pic before the group of Onc Twinkle was a Den. tetragonum, at least the flowers looked like it, but the plant is huge! I had no idea they get that big!!
Oh it did!! And the Blc Chia Lin 'Shinsu' in pic nr 26 smells awesome now in our Living room!
We also picked up
a division of their Bardendrum Nanboh-Pixy x Terusan blooming, I was flipping over it last Summer
Coelogyne Jannine Banks ' Snow White' with a good spike
Vanda Vichot, cute small plant with small bluish blooms
Rhynchocentrum Lilac Blossom
And a little Onc Twinkle ' Pink something' also smelling yummy!
Great pictures of a nice show. Thanks for sharing. Stay warm and safe during this snow event and keep us posted. I woke up to 50 degrees which may well be the high for the day. It is very windy and gloomy looking out there. I'm leaving for singing practice at 9:30 so I'll have a better report this afternoon.

Thanks Jim!
It is looking beautiful outside, if one likes to look at a wonderful snowy scene. Actually it is comfy and warm inside while there is a bit of a white-out going on outside! And the snow is piling up!
The good part is that after Hurricane Sandy the power lines have been much improved, trees have been trimmed away, sturdier poles installed and such. So one can simply look outside and enjoy it, we are not going anywhere today. We probably shovel out tomorrow.

Atta girl, Ursula. Stay inside and enjoy the pretty view until that white stuff stops!
We still have 55 and sunny outside, but the forecast says we will be down into the 30's tonight so I am taking drastic measures and bringing in or covering everything for tonight.
The cold combined with the wind could certainly damage a lot of my tropical plants not to mention the poor orchids.

Good thing you are inland Ursula, they are expecting massive tides tonight. I have a BIL on the Jersey shore, they are being cautious.
We actually had a few flakes here this morning. It was dangerous driving because everyone was looking up. Temp was 37 but I guess the upper air was colder. It is always so strange to see snow in the Lowcountry.
I believe there is a book called Snow on the Orchids, it doesn't sound that interesting but I wonder if it wouldn't make a good book to curl up with on this chilly day.
