Ibis, I think yours will be just like mine! Opening any day now! It looks like a healthy one!
Alice, I don't know a lot about catesetum, but I do know there are LOTS of varieties and Fred Clark was instrumental in creating the 'black' ones...and there are lots and lots of crosses of those. Sorry I can't be of more help.
There's an orchid show coming up for midwesterners (and anybody else) in St Louis at MOBOT.(February and March). They usually have gazillions for sale in their on site garden store while the show is held, http://garden.org/apps/events/...
For sale back in Feb. 2013
Also, all year in the tropical dome 'Climatron' there's a lot of orchids for viewing -

Today I spent a few hours at the North Jersey Orchid Society Show, at their new location at the Douglass Student Center, Rutgers University in New Brunswick, 100 George Street. The Show is ongoing to Sunday, Jan 17.
I had a really good time, the exhibits were gorgeous and there were a lot of good Orchids to be perused at the Vendor's tables. Fun!
And there is my loot!

Thanks Ken! I was really happy to pick up the Ancistrochilus rothschildianus, this one is really neat with its Hershey Kiss - shaped pseudobulbs. I had one more than ten years ago and I lost it one Summer. Never saw another one until today! Tickled pink!!
Thanks Jim!
This lovely lady has only Orchid jewelry and her prices are reasonable. I always wind up happily chatting with her, she is really sweet! The piece on the blackground close to her right arm did wind up in my basket....
