Seedling 14-AM-09-06 "Aril-median seedling (OGB-, quarter-bred) 14-AM-09-06. We like this one a lot, nice gold veining in the standards, good form and a pretty shade of red in the falls plus the burgundy black signal. YES--we're working a LOT with aril-medians! Parentage is Navajo Velvet X an involved SDB seedling going back to 2002 involving the SDB re-bloomers Replicator and Carmel Celeste and the non re-blooming SDBs: Love Unlimited (2 shots), plus Yearling and Cachet. Again, rebloom genes in the mix, but no re-bloom here yet." ![]() |

I love that one, reminds me of tropical sunsets and yummy cocktails! What does OGB stand for? "...and don't think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It's quiet, but the roots are down there riotous." Rumi |

I'm glad they're doing a lot with aril medians ![]() I think OGB means 1/4 aril breeding, but I don't know what the acronym stands for |

OGB stands for Oncoregeliabred: I googled it ![]() |

I guess then we need to interpret what that means.... "The chimera is a one time happenstance event where the plant has a senior moment and forgets what it is doing." - Paul Black |

"ONCOGELIABRED OGB, OGB+, OGB- A hybrid containing any combination of oncocyclus and regelia and other eupogon irises, e. g., Oyez and Persian Padishah. " (pg 6) "ONCOCYCLUS SPECIES O Members of the oncocyclus section of bearded irises are characterized by one bloom to the stem. This includes selected clones that have been registered or introduced as named varieties; e. g., I. susiana, I. gatesii, I. paradoxa, and Real Ebony (selected clone of I. nigricans). " (pg 5) "REGELIA SPECIES R Members of the regelia section of bearded irises are characterized by normally producing as many as two blooms to the stalk. This includes selected clones that have been registered or introduced as named varieties, e. g., I. korolkowii, I. stolonifera, I. hoogana, and Decorated Giant (selected clone of I. stolonifera). " (pg 5) Info taken from http://www.arilsociety.org/201... I don't know if that helps at all. |

Seedling 14-AM-10-04 Another exciting arilmedian quarterbred (OGB-) seedling blooming now: 14-AM-10-04, this is a sib to the "double signal" seedling we showed a few days ago. This seedling has a very dark intense large burgundy black signal, bleeding red around the edges. Not sure what we're going to do with all these aril-median seeedlings we are liking this year! Repeating the parentage again: New Vision X an SDB seedling going back to 2002 and involving re-blooming SDBs: All That Magic, Replicator, and Royal Overtime, plus non re-blooming SDBs Love Unlimited and Yearling. Lots of re-bloom genes, but no re-bloom here yet. ![]() ![]() |

Seedling 13-AB-05-10 Arilbred OGB (half-bred) blooming now, we will line it out next year to continue to evaluate for possible future introduction. 13-AB-05-10, nice clean, crisp bright flower out of Alakazam X Silent Sentry. ![]() |

seedling 13-UNG-03-53 Unguicularis seedling 13-UNG-03-53, continuing to evaluate. It has a double dose of the white I.unguicularis Alba in its background. Most white unguis have very narrow petals and don't grow strongly. This seedling has good petal width and grows well. It is a very pale lavender, not quite white yet, but we're working on it. Unguis are in real good bloom now here. ![]() |
