Thanks Tarev, good idea but since it gets moved in the winter into the greenhouse not sure how well that would work.

Hi gang,

Just thought I'd pop in real quick with the latest blooms. Here's the latest from my little 'bubble bed'. Also very excited. My Chamaelobivia v. 'Rose Quartz' are getting ready to go into overdrive. I expect many more blooms on this plant in the next few days. Thumbs up

WOW!!! Blinking I got to see something amazing today. Went to a BBQ and this is what the host had growing in the front yard. Here's a 360 degree view of this barrel. Outstanding and impressive isn't it?

Here's a barrel they had in the back yard. Now my husband, pictured, is 6 foot 6 inches tall. This barrel had to be at least 2.5 feet tall. Any guesses how old the barrel is?

Here's also a rather beautiful p.pear I had never seen before. Both salmon and yellow flowers. Thumbs up Does anyone know what variety this is?
I thought it was rather gorgeous.

Have a great night all.

I'm unsure on its validity, but I used to have a C&S book that said Golden Barrels are about 30-40 years old when they first bloom.

I had some that I got when they were golf ball size in 2003. They bloomed in 2015. I'm sure it must depend on the climate, soil, etc. They do very well in AZ for me. In NM they can only stay out Spring, Summer and Fall and come indoors in winter.

Wow, that's a tiny one! That is very true about the location, etc.

I had some under a pergola with shade cloth, and some out in the open yard in full sun. The shaded ones bloomed first, and then the full sun barrels bloomed a year later. mine have been down to 20 degrees with no problems. It gets colder than that in NM on occasion so I just take them all inside.
