This is one of my noids which I have no idea of where it came from. I do not need a guess at an id but has anyone seen it before. The beard is particularly unusual for me. It will be one of my keepers.

Somehow when I look at that iris I think: "Interstellar Gardens - Tom Burseen." And the only reason is those beautiful deep colored beards. I've seen pictures of some real beauties coming from his gardens, plus it's a space-ager. Also someone whose last name is Worel, I believe, specializes in the really dark beards too. And also Jim Hedgecock...

In the past 3 years I have received a number of irises from members scattered across several states. I do not think this was one of my WM purchases so there is no way to really id it. I have about 50, with some duplications, irises with no names or names not verified so the noid is not a problem. It just caught my eye this season and I could not remember seeing it before. Hopefully, it will survive and bloom next year with enough increases to be divided. It may be feasible to cross it with another color and come up with a really neat specimen.

You are thinking of Jack Worel who lives in MN. The flower parts don't seem wide enough for a Burseen iris, but the beards thinking about forming 'horns' does.
