The link below will take you to a page that has links to the Bulletins of the Sempervivum Society. While the Society apparently has been gone for awhile, the Bulletins are well worth the time to read. Some are stuffy and boring, some terminology is "scientific" and a little hard to get into. Some of the info is dedicated to species rather than the hybrids we enjoy today. However, you can find information about the history of many of the popular varieties and info about the people who created them. It took me weeks to read all this stuff the first time, but it was well worth the effort.

It's obviously translated by someone who has English as a second language, but it's nowhere near as bad as those horrible 'spun' articles that are so garbled as to be unreadable.

Jacki, I have to disagree. If you read the Journal, you will see that it was published in Great Britain/England and find numerous references to locations there. So the original language was English. Perhaps you are looking at something else?

Lynn, spun articles are those articles on blogs that are taken (either stolen or actually bought or borrowed) from another source, then run through a program that changes enough words so that it's not plagiarism. The end result, in some cases, is that it's almost garbled, not to mention garbage. The program just uses synonyms for every other word (or some such thing) which turns it into utter rubbish.

Twit, the page I saw said in several places that it was translated, and for accuracy you should see the original French page. I can't read French, so that does me no good at all. Maybe it was just that page...

If you set up an alert for any topic you want (I have Succulents and Echeveria right now) on Google, you'll get an email with links to all kinds of blogs and websites with new posts about that topic. Some are excellent, and some are 'spun'...

Jacki, Here is a link to one of the issues that I read. I suspect that you are going in through a different link. The page I gave you initially had a lot of different links to many other publications in different languages.

Try this:

http://stalikez.info/fsm/semp/...

and let me know if we are on the same page or a different one, (This is Volume 8 Issue 1)

This is the page I ended up on, but even on the page that you linked to above, there is bright red warning saying "This page is a translation, somewhat approximate and maybe out of date. Please refer to the original French text."

The other link that you refer to in the post just previous seems to be better and different.

Lynn, glad you found out how to do a Google alert - you'll be tech savvy in no time!

Jacki, The document you are referring to is not the Sempervivum Society Journal. That is the link page from Sempervivophilia (which is apparently a French document) but the links on that page take you to the Journal, which was written in English. There are also links on that page to other Sempervivum related publications in other languages. Scroll down until you see the links.

There are multiple links on the Sempervivophilia page which enable you to get to each of the available Sempervivum Society Journal issues. My first post in this thread indicated that the link above would take you to a link page that would let you have access. The translated French document has pointers to the English Journal issues.
