I went out Saturday and picked up a load of bagged fresh grass clippings. I added them to a small pile of aged leaves and the recent grass clippings from mowing a small portion of my own lawn the other day. Went back out this morning and on the way back from the post office found the most beautiful pile of shredded leaves and grass clippings sitting my the road. I added them to my little beginnings of a compost pile. This should be smoking hot by tomorrow, and I will try to turn it at least within the next few days. I tried to show just how fine the texture was in this pile, hard to see with the camera, but it looked almost ready for the garden just as it was, except for the fact that it would get hot enough to kill the plants. I did mix in three thin layers of my already finished leaf mold in with the new stuff, just to give it an extra fast start.
Anyhow that combo of materials ended up making a beautiful compost pile to get the year started off right.
