Thanks, Dave, good responses!

On a similar but separate note, I don't think I ever voiced my opinion on the suggestion of us ATP'ers having a special icon to show we were a part of the Dave and Trish clan since ATP, but I certainly would love it! I'm ALREADY getting a little nostalgic about the 'old ATP days' and it hasn't even been a week! Hilarious!

As an extended thought of DND, someone has mentioned being a charter member. Looked around and can't find anything of that sort. Some of us have been with you since the "old" days @Dave and continued forth to where we are now. This is where I want to be. A site where I feel "safe", that's clean and well run.

Changes seem to be a part of life that can be difficult to adjust to, yet you seem to make those changes easy without many glitches to deal with. I commend you and @Trish with these changes.

I guess what I'm saying is, I'm wherever you and Trish are for gardening.

Molly

Look at your badges. The first one, the scroll with a tree and butterfly, thats a charter member badge.

Not to separate the ATP people from the NGA people because we are now one big, happy, blended family...but if each of the groups had a micro-badge that could be "purchased" it might help us to know if we are talking to a "new" person - at that applies to both sides. The original NGA people would know that the poster is an original ATP member (not necessarily a charter member) and vise versa.

I don't think it's a good idea to separate people into before and after groups, it might become a them and us situation.

Yeah, no need. We're all one big happy family, with some having been around longer than others. Smiling

I figured I'd throw the leaf back up there for now. After all, it's served us very well for almost 5 years. May as well keep using it until something better is made.

Sorry, yall are right. It never entered my mind an "us and them" thing. Didn't mean to come across that way. The important thing I meant to say was, I am glad to be here now and traveled all the roads it took to get here.

Yes, Dave! I use that saying all the time! As soon as I was old enough to move away, I moved straight to Texas! Texas Pride! (Sorry non-Texans Rolling on the floor laughing )

Neither is mine. I think it's less about seniority and more of a sentimental thing, wanting to have some recognition-or remembrance-of All Things Plants. Maybe in a year no one will care, who knows? But right now I think an icon is a nice way to feel attached to the 'old site'.

I had considered that, but then decided that there are people from DG that were on ATP and it never felt like an us and them situation to me. Then again, there are no icons to indicate who was and wasn't from there, only comments they have made in forums and my memory.

Anyhoo, if the icon is an unpopular idea, I'm not going to push for it, it was merely a thought that was presented that I also thought would be neat, but not essential.

Finish the G+ sometime please. Actually an interesting venue above and beyond Facebook and the dreaded Pinterest Google Image search grief requiring log-in to view . At least please consider it down the line.

My reasoning had nothing to do with a "them or us". My thought was that when I see a post by a newbie it would be good to know if they are new to gardening and might therefore require basic beginner answers to their questions as they grow and learn to garden.

If we were able to see that a person was new here but had been a member of NGA for years our answers might be a bit different.
Plus... I look forward to learning from the more experienced people.

Why would your answer be any different from a new gardener than to an experienced gardener. There are ways of responding so that everyone reading can understand without sounding condescending or less understood. There are many readers to your posts than the OP.

Condescending? Not my intention.
When a newbie asks a questions that is basic I would gear my answer to a beginner gardener so as not to intimidate them by providing too much information. More experienced gardeners require greater detail because they already know the basics.

Since Sighing! once again my words are being misunderstood and interpreted negatively...I will step away.

If someone is new to a site without having belonged previously to the NGA, it doesn't automatically mean they are inexperienced.

Someone who has a lot of knowledge may not have previously belonged to any gardening site.

Also, a person might be experienced in a certain field of plants but know very little about other plants in general. Simple answers might appear to be insulting.

Throwing ideas about does no harm though. Smiling
