Hi I am having problems finding cactus people interested in trading and posting information! I need to search constantly in the succulent forums just to find traders and sellers! This is the great time of year because the cactus is dormant for repotting information and trading cutting segments etc. please consider a forum for these cactuses! P.S I love to see , no pricks plants forum, too!

We do have a "Cactus and Tender Succulents forum".
http://garden.org/forums/view/...

If you go there and search on "Christmas cactus" and other names, you will find many threads.

Here's a thread with 130+ posts:
"Holiday cacti season again."
The thread "Holiday cacti season again." in Cactus and Tender Succulents forum

The thread "Christmas cactus, Schlumbergera x buckleyi, pics almost all wrong" in Cactus and Tender Succulents forum

The thread "Thanksgiving and Christmas Cactus bath time." in Cactus and Tender Succulents forum

The thread "Christmas Cactus" in Cactus and Tender Succulents forum

Have you tried looking for ads or posting some yourself in the "Classifieds and Group Buys" forum?
http://garden.org/forums/view/...

Someone else was hoping for a "Christmas cactus - only" forum, and I THOUGHT she set up a thread somewhere. But I haven;t found that yet.

I don't have any suggestions beyond
- chatting up the relevant forum,
- joining or starting up a group buy,
- joining or starting a swap, and
- using the "Have and Want lists" in the plant database.

I guess, if you want to sell, you could place ads in the "Classified" forum. I think that "making customers come to you" is a classic problem for any seller, but not really a "problem" that this website is primarily dedicated to solving.

If there really is an untapped group of people here already eager to swap Holiday Cactus cuttings or plants, but who can't find each other, you could try starting a "plant swap" using Dave's "seed swap tools". The "seed swap forum" is for that, but you should also make a thread in the Cactus forum, to publicize it, where interested people would be most likely to see it.

(Before starting up a plant swap, I would FIRST ask around to find how many people might join such a plant swap. They would have to be comfortable shipping cuttings or plants around the country.)

I am fairly new too and it took me a while to figure out how to use it. One of the things that might be helpful for you us when you do find a thread on Christmas or Easter cactus you can click on follow this thread. That way if a new post comes up it will automatically notify you. The other thing that I really like is for important information that I will refer back to over and over again is the star icon at the bottom of every post. You can click on a post you want to save for some reason on the star and it will save on your own records page.

I hope the Cactus and Succulent forum has lots of interesting threads.

You might even look up specific plants int he Plant data base, then see who "HAS" those plants. It shows they are interested in them.

Then you could even search for those people, and find threads they are in. THOSE threads might be interesting.

Good luck!

Hi again Alisa ( @Purplebloomcactus )

I just saw this, which might answer your search for people interested in trading, or at least talking about, Holiday cacti.

Jacquie, I hope you don't mind my re-posting this where Alisa will see it.

Not to take away from ATP, but there are some people who will want to take a look at this forum on Cubits.org. It is new and will be fun and informative. It is just beginning and all are welcome who have or want to have Holiday Cactus.

Here is my Christmas cactus blooming away, but it surely doesn't look
like any other Christmas cactus I've ever had and none pictured here.
Can anyone help ID this one? Thanks for all suggestions!

That's because yours is an Easter cactus (Rhiosalidopsis gaertneri) and Christmas cactus is (Schlumbergera)

Angie, I agree that your beautiful plant is not Schlumbergera (Christmas Cactus) but rather the one called Easter Cactus: Easter Cactus (Hatiora) (Rhiosalidopsis is a synonym)

We have a few in our database with photos for comparison: https://garden.org/plants/sear...
