If the stems themselves are weaker than last year it sounds like time for a move! They might have exhausted the soil or not be happy with that position. But if stems are simply 'blind' and otherwise as vigorous as usual it's probably something else. From what I understand, blind stems can come from adverse conditions, such as being too dry, just at the critical time of bud development.

Seems like I always have a few that behave like this and return to normal the next year.

Also, make sure you remove the flowerheads and give them a light application of fertilizer every year after blooming. Also, I've found that those that bloom heavily one year may take a vacation the next, just to build themselves back up. Another thing to consider if these are Asiatic, is that living in Ft. Worth, TX, there is always the possibility of an exceptionally mild winter that can have an adverse affect on Asiatic bud formation at a critical period sometime in the middle of dormancy as the bulb reprograms itself. My relatives in far Southwest Georgia struggle with Asiatics because of this.

That is a lovely assortment of lilies! I have found that sometimes very early in the season (when the lily is first coming up) and I am weeding I will inadvertently step on a lily top. The lily will come up but cannot bloom. Sometimes cats, dogs,, balls and children do the same thing. This spring I took the blooms off of three lilies while they were only up an inch or two.

If the lily leaves are green, maybe the bulb needs a year to feed and grow. I have naturalized daffodils and here in DFW was told dig deeper and get the soil turned. But when planting the bulbs go shallow, our chill line is closer to the surface, and the bulbs can adjust themselves. The same is even more true with lilies. I turn a little deeper hole but plant shallow, a lily will move itself and is closer to the chill line. I find Asiatics do best here followed by LA 's , LO' s ,and Orientals are so/so. The nice thing about this area is that Asiatics are reliable in pots. I have large pots that each contain a patio rose , start with one lily bulb, and some annuals (self sowers). Dress a quarter of soil each year and in three years there is a nice clump of lilies to put in the ground and I replace all the soil and start over with one lily in the pot. They are fed a little heavier because of the rose but I think they just grow faster. I do not move the pots in winter. I clip my tops after blooming to stop seed formation and would lightly clip the top of any that do not flower. This year I am going to try pulling the leaves with stem to propagate. Nice to meet you Javamom! Have a joyful day!

What a terrific mail parcel you received Javamom from jmorth!!

Now we all know that we blokes like a good picture, so as I scrolled down the thread, I only stopped at the end with the pic and tried to ID what the bulbs were.Well it was easy to see the gloriosa and I was pretty sure about the Aztec lily (sprekelia) but for the life of me, could not ID the others until I read Javamom's preceeding post. And so I now know what pineapple lilies (eucomis) look like!

Hi Mary/@mesquite664, are you taking about Lilies ? I bought mine from different place, like Costco, Lowe's, Holland Bulb, Tulip World, Brecks...You can also check the Green Pages here that have some recommendation of places that members bought their plants/bulbs from...
I'm sorry about the late reply, I haven't been in this Forum for awhile...
