Can you tell me what type of plant this is and how to care for it? I had it indoors and it was struggling to survive but after placing it on my patio it's thriving.

My guess would be Schefflera. Pretty common house plant. Gene

Hi & welcome! I think it's the bigger one, S. actinophylla:
Umbrella Tree (Schefflera actinophylla)

That needs more sun than the S. arboricola. If yours is S. actinophylla, that could explain why it's so much happier outside.
