Daniel, please let me know if you find Francis of Assisi to be pod or pollen fertile. I crossed it last year with any and every tet ( both ways) but got nothing. I wonder if it is my plant or is this typical of this cultivar.

I'll be happy to keep you updated. So far I only see a few pods here and there and none from Gram's dream as pollen or pod parent and none from Francis of Assisi as pollen or pod parent yet. By far Forestlake Ragamuffin has been the most fertile both ways but I've had a lot more Forestlake Ragamuffin blooms than others. Speaking of Forestlake Ragamuffin I forgot about

Just and update I now have a pod that formed on Gram's Dream. I also I have several pods now using Gram's Dream as the pollen parent the first pic is the pod on Gram's Dream

I also have many more pods that I think may be hiding under shriveled flowers. The bad thing is it's been getting so hot so early the pollen has been drying up before I make it home from work. I was off today and I got some great shots of Gram's Dreams anthers just as the pollen was starting to push out around 8am this morning.

I have a pod on Forbidden Fantasy using Francis of Assisi as the pollen parent. you can see it in the 3rd pic down.

At this point my crosses are determined by what pollen is usable more then what crosses I want to make. Restless Heart is another daylily I'm not too fond of. It does have a lot of substance with very thick petals and always opens good so I don't mind using it as a pod parent with any extra pollen that's around but I'm not using it as a pollen parent and may get rid of it soon like Double Cupcake.
I look forward to adding more patterns this Fall. Hopefully I can find some seeds with tet Texas kaleidoscope, Searing Wind, or Ripples and Reflection genes in them to play with. I bid on some of Tink's seeds last night on the LA but sadly was outbid. I don't mind spending $20 or $30 for some seeds but $60 and over $100 for some seeds is too far out of my budget though worth every penny. I love both her's and Fred Manning's patterns. I personally think many of Fred and Tink's seedlings look way better than other hybridizers intros and they have shifted my goals more towards patterns than teeth but I still love teeth and spiders.

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Gram's Dream') X Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Forestlake Ragamuffin') today also. It seems pollen forms best when temps stay below 90F Today was mid 80's and I had a lot of fluffy pollen vs the past few days.

You mentioned using a plant as a pod parent because of its substance and opening habits but that you won't use it as a pollen parent. I am new to Daylilies and I am trying my hand at hybridization for fun right now. Your comment got me wondering if there are some characteristics that are more determined by the pod parent and other characteristics that are determined by the pollen parent?

I am currently using a lot of pollen from God Save The Queen because I think she is beautiful, and I'm using a lot of pollen from Lurch because I like the size and shape of it. But I am doing several other crosses since I don't have a lot of varities in my garden. Just whatever seems to be blooming and available on any given day.

Amber from what I'm told it's about 50/50 the only reason I use it as a pod parent and not a pollen is I'm not very fond of it so I just cross it to not waist a bloom. Don't get me wrong some things may look good with it but I think many of my others will make better pod and pollen parents for my goals.

I crossed some dips with some tets by accident thinking they where tets also for some dumb reason. anyway I have pods on Lavender Blush which is a dip from 2 different tet parents. There is no mislabeling they are tet pollen parents. Will these pods be void?

Not necessarily. You may get a few seeds. I've done it in the past and gotten seeds. Haven't planted any yet to see if they are viable though. And if you are pollinating later in the day there is always a chance an insect got to the flower first and deposited some dip pollen.

I was hoping that Dragonfly Dawn would bloom this year to do some crosses but it is so small that I doubt it will bloom.

Thanks Elena, I hope it wasn't self pollinated but I guess that's always a chance with evening crosses. Cindy is Dragonfly Dawn a slow grower in general or just in the North?

I'm getting fewer blooms everyday but have pods on every tet in the garden except Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Francis of Assisi')

That I don't know Daniel. This is only the second summer I have had it.
