Hi everyone! This morning I found a new bloom, the plant is tagged as Spartacus Adorned (I made the tag, there was surely one fan of Spartacus Adorned). I thought it was a new fan of S.A. but not. It looks like Always Afternoon. But A.A. is not in the same bed. And for the life of me I don't remember I put a fan of it near spartacus adorned.
Is this A.A. really? I don't have many cultivars so I think it should be easy keeping track of everything. But I can make a mess even with few plants!

I never saw A.A. blooming so this is why I'm asking.
Thank you!

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! I can't believe how stupid I am!!
I kept on cursing on Always Afternoon because it didn't grow, it didn't bloom... and now I found I already divided it into two spots!!! The worst is that I can't remember when I did it Blinking

Sorry cybersix but if you look on the Daylily database on this site will see that yours does not look much like Always Afternoon. I have grown AA for many years and the first bloom opened today and it is different than yours.
It it an entire clump or one lone scape? Five years ago i sold a pink daylily and apparently did not get all of the root system because last year i had a single bloom shoot out of the side of a clump that did not match the clump. It took 4-5 years for that tiny tuber i left behind to get big enough to bloom. Maybe that is the case. A little detective work can go a long ways.

This is my bloom today. I'd say the color is right but not the eye at all.

Kevin, I will go out and look better.
I asked because I wasn't sure, the eye is differente I see it. But it's the FFO and maybe the next will be different. I'll take more picture if it's blooming today. Many thanks.

Kevin, here is the plant:

Thumb of 2016-06-23/cybersix/221b2e

There are no blooms today. I measured the scape height and it's 27" instead of the 22" given in the database.
It's one single fan.

The plant that I marked surely as Always Afternoon (in the spot I always remember it to be - single fan too) has the same height. I bought this DL three springs ago on Ebay and it never bloomed, so I'm not 100% sure it's Always Afternoon. How is the scape height of yours?

Sabrina,

Your picture of AA looks more like Siloam Merle Kent. I did a Google for SMK and it looks a lot like what you posted.

Thank you David. I checked Siloam Merle Kent and the bloom is really similar but it should be a lot shorter than mine, 18 inches, while this supposed NOID is 27. I searched in the database on here for height 27 and color mauve but nothing useful came up. Will wait the other blooms to see it better.
Forgot to say, it didn't went dormant the past winter. The only true dorman I have is Stella de Oro. The others all remained visibile through the winter.

Never mind, I got it and searched in the database. I found this:

but still the scape height is not the same. I'll measure the next bloom.

Sabrina-- what about checking some of the pinks. Pinks can range in color from peach to pink to lavender depending on the cultivar. Soil and temperature affect color along with some hybridizers if they had any hint at all of pink labeled them pink. Pink daylilies sell. How about something
like Holy Matrimony? Pretty daylily looks like good branching. It looks pretty close to my AA for only the first three blooms of the season when it's cold. Subsequent blooms for me look like the other photos of AA. May many blessings come your way today!

Found another DL on the Candy series:

it happens that when I placed my first daylilies order back in march 2014 I ordered Wineberry Candy from a nursery.
When the box came I didn't remember of having found Wineberry Candy. never saw a label or a tag. So I thought the plant wasn't available and the grower sent another in substitution. There's been a sort of a mess with this order and a lack of communication from the nursery.
But now, could it be Wineberry Candy mislabeled?
Still scape height doesn't match.

Sharon, cross posted! I may have found a possible answer. Thank you for heads up on colors! But what about height? I guess it can change a bit, I supposed it's not carved in stone, right?

Sabrina-- I have great variations in scape height. I find some are shorter and some are taller. I live Texas and experience extreme temperature variations. Even in my yard it varies. Majestic Hue on one side of the yard bloomed at 36 to 38 inches and on the other side it bloomed 26 to 28 inches. Neither was its 30 inches. I have good soil, my homemade soil mixtures, and filtered shade usually plants grow bigger for me. But if sun or temperature variations bother them they can be smaller. Just keep checking heights on your daylilies and you will get a feel for what they will do. (Larger, smaller or right on the money) Many daylilies take 3 years to mature and be consistent. But my Majestic Hue is 3. Joy to you!

here's another bloom of the same plant in my sister's garden (it's in a pot)

Thumb of 2016-06-23/cybersix/968e75

Sharon, it's logical that height can vary a bit. With this plant I'm having 22/23 inches (whether it is AA or Wineberry Candy) versus the 27 it grew here.
I really can't understand what is!

Sabrina, my scape height is 20" and bloom size is 5 1/2". I have large clump that started blooming yesterday. Always Afternoon was kind of fickle for me also. Bloomed great 6 years ago and hardly nothing the next season. Last year i moved it into newly prepared bed and started using Milorganite on all my plants. Its has grown and sprouted buds like never before as have all my plants for the most part.
I tend to take scape height as an average and bloom size is more accurate i think.
Sorry i do not grow anything quite like your bloom. But it is a pretty one.

So, this bloomed this morning for the firs time. It's labelled Always Afternoon, and I think it's really it. It's somewhat a lot different than the bloom I posted before. What do you think?

This picture looks more like AA, but that line down the center of the peddles doesn't appear as distinct on mine. Not sure if that could be from soil/temp differences or not. Mine is blooming now so I'll take some pictures with my newer camera after the sun comes up. My old one didn't always get the colors right.
